WORLD CUP 2026 THREAD

I still have some recorded games that I know the final scores on. Although it’s not as much fun, I still want to go through them. Thoughts?
I’ve never wanted to do that personally, at least not the full game, but Will go back and watch specific sections of highlights. I have friends that will even rewatch full games they’ve already watched

Basketball is the most boring sport to me...
When I first arrived in the US my very nice boss decided he needs to acclimate me to American culture, which translated into him getting me to several NBA games (and to the Tick Tock diner). He had some source for free tickets for East Rutherford, NJ.

I'm not new to basketball, but the first time I saw one live I didn't realize when the actual game started. There were so many ads going on the main screen and so many distraction on the PA system that I had to actually look at the court to realize the game had started.

RIP James Gandolfini, he was in the first row and screamed at us to make some noise, Tony Soprano style.

I wouldn't say it was boring though, I was 60ish away from this:

But all in all, it was a shock how the games started and went on as ads kept blasting on the screen and all sort of noises were drowning the actual game.

Balogun’s red card was rescinded by FIFA. He should play against Belgium.

https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/49277378/usmnt-folarin-balogun-red-card-suspended-belgium

“By operation of Article 27 FDC, the implementation of the automatic match suspension for USA player Folarin Balogun is suspended for a probationary period of one (1) year.”
Great news all overall blasting everywhere (typing while screeding down a hill but meaning OK)

Might I add - those are 32 years old. They can vote, be served alcohol, and in another three years they'll be old enough to run for president.

Found the rules allowing FIFA to suspend disciplinary action. So odd as FIFA was adamant before that at least a one match suspension was mandatory when a red card was given by the referee.

27. SUSPENSION OF IMPLEMENTATION OF DISCIPLINARY
MEASURES
1. The judicial body may decide to fully or partially suspend the implementation of a disciplinary measure.
2. By suspending the implementation of the sanction, the judicial body subjects the person sanctioned to a probationary period of one to four years.
3. If the person benefiting from a suspended sanction commits another infringement of a similar nature and gravity during the probationary period, the suspension shall be revoked by the judicial body and the sanction enforced without prejudice to any additional sanction imposed for the new infringement.
4. Disciplinary measures relating to match manipulation cannot be suspended.

There have been some great endings from High School to pro over the years no doubt about it!! But a mid season NBA game is really boring to ME. One basket then the next...............too much scoring!!

It’s my favorite, college anyway. Followed closely by college football.

Not having a professional team in Alabama I’ve never much cared for pro sports, outside of the Braves growing up as they were reasonably close and most every game was on TBS. Now you need extra subs to watch them so I’ve not followed them much for several years now

I can respect that and I do watch some spring college ball.

I also like women’s volleyball but that’s a different sport

Just to clarify, the red card was not suspended. The disciplinary measure was suspended but can theoretically be restored if Balogun commits a similar infraction in the future. This isn’t the first time that it’s happened. Cristiano Ronaldo was slated to sit out with a three match suspension but it was reduced to one by FIFA in time for him to play in this World Cup.
