Woodpecker

My brother in law shot a squirrel 🐿️ in the backyard back in Wyoming. In the city limits a lil old lady was feeding them and then they would go jump the fence and break the heads off their custom water sprinkler system they use to water plants and vegetables. Only a misdemeanor as it is against the law to feed the animals.

I've never seen one either but I like hearing them rat-a-tat-tatting in the trees behind my house. Makes me smile. They're not the smartest birds because they rat-a-tat-tat on my metal chimney cap and it echoes throughout the house. LOL.
They do that on metal to attract a mate and to establish territory.

Not to be a party pooper but:
What happens if I kill a woodpecker?

It is illegal to kill woodpeckers. You need a special permit to kill these federally protected creatures because they are protected under the Federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act. Plus, you enjoy them, right? You just don't want them damaging your home.
