Enjoy the pics

Yes, told my pops to buy all the real old WIX's from say 2 years and back up now since he always uses WIX.

According to O'Reilly Auto Parts website, the WL10332 fits newer 2.5 Toyota engines. That thing is awful. I guess the WL prefix denotes a workshop filter.

Thanks for the info sir. First time I saw a wix with WL in part #

Yep, my first time as well. I went to the WIX site and the WL10332 is the only oil filter listed for the late model 2.5 Toyota. I'm going to keep my eyes open for the old Affinia made filters and stock up.

All of Wix's European-market oil filters start with WL. Wix has European operations out of Poland, Filtron. They serve the European market. The Euro Wix air filters start with WA.

For example, the American Wix 51315 crosses over to the WL7077 in Europe.

Maybe they are starting to consolidate part numbers for both markets. Mann is a German company, so maybe they like the European numbering system better.

Are Wix XP also faltering? Or are they totally different than the regular Wix?

Yeah, it looks fine to me as well except for the consistency or lack of, in the pleat spacing. The media looks nice & dense, which I like and the and the center tubing is metal and not plastic like an e-core.

I'm not implying that I know squat about filters however, this one looks better than some other filters that I've seen members raving about. Hmmm, so IDK!

I was wondering the same thing. Unfortunately, we have no clue how well it would stand up because no oil has gone through it.

True that. So making a performance judgement one way or the other based entirely on unused appearance, speculative. One thing for sure, based on current anecdotes and personal use this WL filter not representative of the current Wix labeled 5 series or same Napa Gold filters. So unlike some apparently, I'm not making any leap that all Wix/NG or even Wix 'made for' filters now the same or similar to topic. That said, agreeing with some others, with the exception of less than perfect pleat spacing filter looks ok to my eye.

All I see is wide and inconsistent pleat spacing. That could contribute to media tears if the media is weak*, but there have been no widespread reports of that on WIX filters or Napa Gold so it doesn't worry me. I'm not aware of any brand that hasn't posted a filter that looks like this on some occasions, so I don't think it is cause for alarm regarding WIX quality control.

* This is speculation based on other torn filters that have been posted, which usually tear on a wide pleat where it is more likely to have room to flex under certain operating conditions. Not all filters with wide pleat spacing will tear. I think the filter media plays a bigger role on this than anything else. The only way for us to know is to keep cutting open used filters, even if it is a brand that has been used for years without problems.

whats funny / odd is M&H / MANN HUMMEL makes Purolator also..

However I have comapred what a filter in a purolator box that clearly says made by Mann hummel and then took the same oil filter thats in a MANN HUMMEL green box and the filters are made in GERMANY and Purolators are made in Mexico.. I think M&H has a factory in Mexico....

I think WIX was better before Mann hummel sunk there teeth into them.. b/c no they compete with themselves.

I joined BITOG almost 3 1/2 years ago. I do not remember any posts of WIX Premium or NAPA Gold filters with torn media. The series appears to be bullet proof.

Jim302 is right. The only way moving forward is to continue cutting open filters for inspection. Then you can begin to assess product quality and change.

…. Purolators are made in Mexico.. .
I've never seen here or elsewhere a 'Purolator labeled oil filter' that said/says made in Mexico. If or when I see it, be a first for me.

M&H being the parent company, makes M&H labeled filters in many locations. However, Purolator labeled oil filters only seen them from the US.
