My aunt has a 2006 Hyundai Sonata 2.4L with 139k miles. I have tons and tons of Chevron Supreme HM 5w30 and am going to change the oil on it.

My question is whether a Wix oil filter or the OEM Hyundai filter will be better?

I would go with the OEM filter. I have a 06 with the 2.4 and its very picky about aftermarket filters.

I too would go with the OEM Filter. + 1 on being very picky with aftermarket filters.

anybody with knowledge of the sonata will say go with the OEM.

OEM filter. There are few filters built as well as the Hyundai/Kia filter. If they were made for other applications, I would buy them for all of my vehicles.

ive used wix (napa platinum) a few times with no issues but everytime i use a purolator my engine is a little loud at idle. Purolator uses the same filter for many hyundai and honda application where other manufactures have specific hyundai/kia filters.

+1 cant beat the price and build quality

I've used both and not noticed any appreciable difference between the two. FWIW, I use OEM now... Mainly because I have so many.

Either will be fine. I've run POne and OEM. Both felt, ran and sounded the same to me. I would have NO issue using WIX or NapaGold for that matter.

Hyundai has a tsb for newer cars that state using an aftermarket filter can cause oil pressure problems and/or knock. This is not to say don't use any aftermarket filters, but you need to find one that is consistent in build quality. I've had good luck with Firestone's filters. (They change my oil)

I cannot comment on Hyundais, but you can never go wrong with an OEM filter. Wix is definitely a good brand as well, so either would be a good choice.

After a little reading, it appears that Hyundais and Kias are sensitive to the oil filter you use. The OEM filters appear to be the preferred filter on those cars.

I see no reason not to go with the hyundai filter as long as you have a hyundai/kia dealership relativity close to you. (i would be reluctant to buy them online as there ARE fakes)

i go to the dealership and buy 5 at a time and they are somewhere in between 5-6 dollars, Usually my dealership has coupons on there websites for the parts department too.

The filters are VERY well made for what they are.

And probably some of the reason people report engine noises even when using the "OEM" filter.
