I pulled a ProSelect filter (NapaSilver) and nowhere on there does it say "Made in the USA". I also pulled a regular Wix filter (NapaGold), and it does say "Made in the USA". That tells me that there is a good chance that Wix has aligned themselves with a foreign company for construction of their ProSelect filters. Hence the cheaper design.
Fleetguard, Wix, Donaldson, and Baldwin all buy filters from each other and box them as their own. They do this because (1) it costs to much to manufacture that filter, or (2) there's a patent on that filter that prevents them from making their own version, or (3) they're just low on supply. Regardless, since all these guys buy from each other, they all have respect for each other's product (note Fram is not included).
If all of these companies make a high-quality filter that meets or exceeds OEM specs, than why not shop price as long as you stick to the best filters made by the best manufacturers?
