$$$$ Wix/M1$$$

Ok going synthetic, Mobil 1 oil. Question is are the Mobil 1 filters worth the extra $$ or will a Wix do just as well. Just havin a hard time shelling out the extra money for both the Mobil 1 oil and filter.
I've been using a Mobil 1 filter without difficulty in the new vehicle. I'm just trying to treat her well.

I think buying the Mobil 1 filter is throwing money away. Take a look at the extended drain test 3MP is doing on his LS1 Camaro. He's approaching 12,000 miles on the Wix/NAPA filter and it's still doing fine based on the used oil analysis.

Also, preliminary info in Bob's filter test suggests that the M1 doesn't flow very well.

Don't draw conclusion on an entire filter selection when only ONE filter was tested. Now, if multiple same and other sizes were tested to be so restrictive, then, I'd agree.

Well I didn't go the Mobil 1 route after all. I put a Pure1 on my baby and an ACDelco on the wifes.
I did go Mobil 1 oil in mine though!

So would I. I did say "preliminary". This is not a conclusion, but an indication. A first look. A suggestion. A hint. A possibility. However it is characterized, the Mobil 1 filter in that first run had a dramatic pressure drop compared to other filter lines.

I would also suspect that it would be unlikely that Mobil would spec out different media for their overall general line of products. There might be variations in flow due to in- and out-flow port design or thread size. But it would not be sensible for them to market their filters the way they do knowing that there were wide divergences in performance amongst the various sizes of the same type of filter.

They hang their hat on high efficiency. I think that that means that their filters generally are going to be more flow restrictive than other filter lines.
