I just bought a new WiX filter for my caliber and it is white and does not have WIX written on it. The WIX filter I buy for my other vehicle is black with WIX written on it. Is there any difference in the quality of these filters.

The NAPA Gold filters I was buying here in Canada were white for a long time. They apparently were made in a WIX plant here in Ontario. Last year, the same model of NAPA Gold filter was suddenly black, had a WIX label on it and said made in USA.

One of the board members here is a WIX employee. He told me that both filters (white and black can) are WIX and made to the same specifications, but simply made in different plants in different countries.

Take the un-labeled filter back to the place of purchase. Wix DOES NOT normally box un-labeled filters. It is either a production mistake, (filter did not get labled by mistake) or a knockoff.

Any white filters are NOS from the color changeover to black.

Yes, the Wix Cambridge Plant is closed.

I finally received an e-mail from Wix on the color difference after waiting three weeks, which I pasted below. I did find the Wix model number on it and its made in Indonesiia. The filter did have a cellophane cover over the opening.

Dear Customer,

You have WIX Filters manufactured at 2 separate facilities. The black filter is designed more for displays and marketing.
Each of the filters will fit and function precisely as designed when properly installed on the appropriate application.

Thanks!

WIX sales would really take off if they sold their filters at WalMart! None of the major retailers sell them in my area, only smaller independent parts suppliers.

Walmart wouldn't sell wix because they are too pricey and can sell that Fram junk for next to nothing. It is all about money, not the customer.

A great example is Mejier. They used to sell purolator until one day they were all gone and the oil aisle was suddenly all orange (Fram).

Like I said before, it is all about profit margins.

I really would rather Wal-Mart not sell Wix filters. Wal-Mart is so powerful that they can name the price that they will pay Wix for the filters.

Eventually, the price will keep going down and Wix will either have to make its operations more efficient or reduce production costs or both. This could mean selling products solely by its past reputation of they have to degrade the product to make it less expensive.

Walmart can keep selling Frams for dirt cheap. I'm perfectly fine paying $6 for a Wix 1396 filter!
