First time ever C&P. Got a cheap $19 cutter on Amazon and it's great. Anyways here's a Wix 57055 filter removed from my 2021 2.5L Subaru Outback. 2,650 miles from January to June with M1 AFE 0w-30. To start off the louvers are atrocious. Barely a hairline open and many of them completely shut. Is this a common QC issue on Wix? Bypass valve has a sloppy/ stretched gasket. Media itself was rock solid. End caps were glued solid with practically no excess glue seen. ADBV rubber was in good condition. You know I think this filter was operating most of the time in the bypass mode due to louver issue. Just my speculation. Especially in the very cold weather this filter saw in MN winters for the first 3 months of the year. I got 2 more Wix filters with same part# in my stash I have to inspect but these filters are mostly all 1-2 years old from previous online orders.

Fwiw, agree, 'what I can see down center tube' pic, louvers don't appear properly open. That said, would have liked to see what they look like with media removed and possibly a flashlight taken to them. Not saying not an issue, just like to see further confirmation especially since c&p anyway.

And based on many other anecdotes over years and personal use for years, bypass piece looks good to me. The wrinkles seen outside actual bypass area normal and no effect on function. That point same as many with others been discussed before and that conclusion reached. Otherwise an OG Wix, looks to be US made based on date code format.

Thanks for c&p.

Yeah they don't LOOK great. But the pictures do make them LOOK worse. Some are open. None look shut completely as claimed.

Remove the media and post more pictures - I am not judging so quickly.

Toss that and other two in the tall grass. Shoddy construction. What went on and in?

I am not a tool and die guy, but that is really shotty work - not just because of the lack of opening but how lot of the holes are kind of "chewed up". I have seen this on some of my own filters. A sharp punch will go through that like a hot knife in butter. So their either using worn out dies, or don't have the die set properly so it doesn't hit with enough force. Possibly the material is too thin for the setup.

Whatever the case its sloppy work. There hoping no one looks.

2023 seemed to be hard on the tooling and process, into 2024

Just get a premium guard variant next time. Carquest premium, microgard select etc

This, they never look great from above. I like to plug in my borescope with the side angle camera and check on mine before throwing them on. What looks possibly rough from above is normally not bad when you are perpendicular to the surface.
