I cut these open and found the bypass is on the threaded end on Wix, and the bypass is on the dome end on the Napa Gold and Carquest Blue filters. Aren't these supposed to be identical?

I might take pictures this weekend. What's strange is the case looks identical. But you can just look inside without even cutting it open to see if it's a dome end bypass.

The consensus in the past was that WIX and NAPA Gold were the same exact thing inside the can. Sounds like that isn't always true.

That's weird.

Pete C, who works (or used to) for WIX has told us NG and CarQuest Blue are identical to WIX-branded filters expect for the paint on the can.

Hmmm... the 1372 is the filter for my F-150. I don't want one if it has the dome end bypass. I'll be interested in seeing those pics if you post them.

All- my sincere apologies - I was totally wrong. The Wix also has the dome end bypass. The Wix/ng/car quest blue are absolutely identical. My bad.

That makes a lot of sense.
The manufacturer's specification must be for a dome end bypass for the listed application.

Even though this thread was dead, what do you mean by your last comment?

51372 is the WIX equivalent to the Motorcraft FL820S. Ford calls for a threaded-end bypass on that filter.

Looking at the big picture, I don't know how many Motorcraft filters historically were/are thread-end bypass, but everyone I'm familiar with in recent years was...Ford must prefer the thread-end filters.
