This was installed on the White 2-135 tractor I purchased with a 5.9 Cummins. No idea how long it’s been on or how many hours. Trying to decipher the maintenance history I received it may have been on the tractor for around 2 years. Because this is the only filter I chose to reinstall a water separator instead of going back with this one. It looks like I made the right call based on the amount of water in the fuel filter. I put a Baldwin BF1226 back on.

So, it was an oil filter that someone used in place of a fuel filter with a water drain?
No, this is still a fuel filter without any kind of water separation ability. It would be used in tandem with another form of water separator usually. There are multiple filter numbers that fit these heads so you have to pay attention to the application the engine is in, especially if it’s not original like this one. I imagine the previous mechanics just put the same number back on that it came in with. This tractor was born with a Hercules engine and this was swapped in at some point.

I have only owned this tractor around a month and all we’ve done with it so far is drill 30 acres of oats. I would’ve changed it sooner if I knew the condition of the filter but the tractor was still running great. I’m going to do a full fluid and filter service on it before I take it to the hay field in May.

The rust and water intrusion is somewhat common on these old Whites. They have steel fuel tanks that draw lots of condensation and due to the age most aren’t front line power anymore for farmers. The result is they sit around a lot.
