Good evening fellow Bitogers on this soft Friday evening in Central Florida.

Phase one of resurrection begins on my 1996 Chevy Truck. I pulled it up to my shop, popped open the hood where I discovered a huge rats nest, (rat condo would be more like it as it completely covered the motor and filled the engine bay. I cleaned it out with a rake, some long wire rods and a leaf blower). Apparently, like Elvis, all the critters had "left the building" during transit, but they left their home and all it's contents behind, (I took the tiny rat fridge to the dump but am keeping the tiny matching love seat and chairs).

It seems that while they were lounging under the hood, they enjoyed snacking on wiring insulation. The most popular wires seem to be the ones running to the CSFI. While they didn't eat entirely through them, they came pretty close as on some, there is only one or two strands of wire holding it together.

My plan is to head to a local junkyard and try to find a new wiring set up, but have no idea what this wiring set up is called. Does anyone have any idea what I can call this so that when I visit said junkyard I can sound intelligent to the man behind the counter, (instead of saying something like "I need the wiring thingamadoo that runs to the whatchamacallit.")

What I was hoping to find is a wiring diagram or schematic that identified all wires leading to and from the fuel injection. Anyone have any idea where I can find such a thing.

Said vehicle is a 1996 Chevrolet Silverado half ton truck, 305 V-8, automatic transmission and yes, it appears to have the CSFI fuel injection system.

Thanks in advance

Engine wiring harness? Being that the rats ate the CSFI wires and who knows what other wires i would get a unmolested wiring harness.

With Alldata, they give you diagrams like this that tell you how the wiring harness is routed and what it plugs into.

I don't think you're going to find a "new" harness at a junkyard.

I would try and find a company that sells a completely new harness. I'm sure it'll be expensive, but at this point it would be worth it, IMO. You could chase your tail for a long time trying to jury rig a pieced together mess.

I shouldn't have said "new." I meant "new to me," as in "another one off another vehicle that hasn't been dinner for rats."

You're right though, from what I can see, they really feasted on certain parts, I can only imagine what I can't see.

What scares me is, have they been in the motor itself. Without thinking, after I cleared away the rat condo, I grabbed the accelerator cable to see if it would move freely. It did. Then I got to wondering, "Did they eat their way into the intake and I just dumped loads of rat poop in the intake?" I'll know as soon as I remove intake. Gives a whole new meaning to throwing peanuts under the hood to get the motor running.

I have an old S10 that doesn't get driven much. One time I went to drive it and it was way down on power. After looking into it, there was a huge mouse nest in the intake tube,

. Those critters are nasty.

Would this harness work for your truck?
