Guys, I have a few different oils in my stash. Im trying to decide which one to run in my Silverado through the winter.

I realize it likely doesn't make a lot of difference in Indiana, but this is BITOG and these threads are fun!

Oil #1
- Royal Purple HPS 5w30. Supposedly a mostly Group IV oil. I know it is high ZDDP and synerlec fortified, but my truck doesn't use much oil so i don't think it will hurt the cat for a 7.5k interval. RP customer service said i would have to be smoking like a mosquito sprayer to hurt the cat with HPS. Also I am unsure of the HTHS of this oil. Viscosity Index is 168. TBN 10.0 Anyone know the HTHS of this oil?

Oil #2
-Mobil 1 5w30 Vanilla. VI 170. HTHS 3.1 TBN 9.7 All of you know the specs on this oil.

Oil #3
-Mobil 1 0w40 VI 186 HTHS 3.8 Im thinking this one is probably my poorest choice for a winter oil compared to the 5w30 synthetics. I threw it in there because it is in my stash.

Oil #4
-Amsoil OE 5w30. Group III. VI 166. HTHS 3.3 TBN 8.1

Im leaning toward the RP ATM

Discuss!

I ran group III 5w30 in my 2005 Silverado all year round for over 5 years. I ran that thing in temps from -2 to over 100 degrees F. No issues, always ran great, used the OLM for changes.

I'd just run the 5w30 M1 or Amsoil OE...and use the OLM

RP is the one ive had the longest. Mobil 1 0w40 i got from a friend so it is likely just as old.

My OLM will likely come due in about a month or so. Late October to early November, I will run the next fill to Feb or March likely.

Haha. I have 6 quarts of each so no need to mix. I think I'll go with the Royal Purple HPS first. According to Amazon reviews I'll probably gain 5mpg

I'll use the Mobil after that and shed some iron

I won't mix Mobil 1 0w40 and 5w30 together. They use a different detergent package. I will likely run each one straight. I have enough of every oil listed for and OCI so I don't need to mix any.

I'm thinking I'll go ahead and run the RP HPS. Then I will run the 5w30 mobil. And then figure out where to go from there!

I'm looking forward to trying HPS, this will be the first time I've ran that particular RP oil

I agree, but there isn't any benefit in mixing them when i have enough to run each M1 grade separate from each other.

I have enough of every oil i mentioned in my original post that i do not need to mix any of them together!
