I currently use Purolator PureOne year round. Does it make sense to use a higher-flowing filter ( eg. Wix ) during the winter months ? I change to 5W-30 50/50 synthetic/dino in the winter already. Will a higher-flowing filter make any difference?

Good question!
Maybe it's a good idea.
The flow thing may not matter but just in case it does, I'll use the Amsoil filters I have on my April changes and the Wix I just bought on my Nov changes on my daily drivers.

I say maybe your oil weight ..but I don't think the filter has much to contribute one way or the other ..and within certain sensible limitations ..neither does the oil. That is, aside from a lame ADBV ..I don't think this is much of an issue.

just an opinion..

I run regular sized filters in the winter, and oversized in summer. Want the oil up to temp faster in the winter. Have a couple Saturn OE filters (fram) that I'm going to use in spring or fall when I figure they're least likely to fail on me.
