oh boy... Now this is something nobody should be without in the winter.. From the makers of slick 50
who knows maybe its good stuff.. I may try it and then i will try the spring oil and i will never be without the fall blend.. Only kidding sofus i like your products i have seen miracles with your high mileage oils. And really like your new syn blend although i have not had a used oil analysis done yet it seems nice.

Its just the next level of marketing. Like a gillette razor blade... When you're all out of ideas to stand out from the competition, add another blade or a aloe infused lubricating strip that changes colors in a few days and tells you its time for a new blade.

Is it just really low on the minimum viscosity scale for the 5w20 and 5w30? Maybe a slightly different add pack too to make it heat up faster?

That looks old but I have seen it before. Its a blend, i guess they just were marketing it as winter oil since its been around prior to 0w oils popularity increasing...i bet it was made for those who thought 0w oils are too thin lol

That's what I was going to say. A 5W anything is not a winter oil.

This product was more common in the Canadian market many years ago. Most of us here should know that oil companies try to use gimmicks or target markets for synthetic blends, because otherwise, people buy conventional or they buy synthetic. This blend was common before HM synthetic blends became the next big thing. In the interim, this version of QSED was replaced by the HM QSED, and then Defy. I haven't seen this winter QSED on shelves for a number of years. HM synthetic blends and dexos1 synthetic blends are the current marketing strategy.
And yes, a 5w-XX is a winter oil (I call it an all season oil). It's -30 C out right now, and was -35 C yesterday morning. I call that winter, and I almost always run a 5w-XX, including today and yesterday.

Quaker State marketed a Winter Blend oil a few years ago as well....it was SL rated, came in 5w30 and 10w30, came in an ice blue bottle and was sold at Walmart. The one difference I see...this SN version 5w30 has a VI of 148 while the older one had a VI of 207 (if I remember correctly)....

As much as I like Quaker State oils, I think that this one is for marketing ONLY!
I have seen this oil several years ago(SL/GF-3) at Walmart. It's a syn/blend marketed for winter use. Probably a good oil for sure(if it's a reasonable price) but, unless we can see the specs, it's just another syn/blend oil that is available in 5W20/5W30.
*Maybe it's cSt measurements are a bit lower for Winter Use compared to Quaker State's own sny/blend(Quaker State Advanced Durability) 5W20/5W30 but, remains to be seen!
*Maybe too, there is some additional add pkg for winter use compared to Quaker State's own syn/blend(Quaker State Advanced Durability). Again, remains to be seen!
I say if the price is right, buy some! But, I wouldn't go out of my way to get it compared to other oils including conventional in the same grade(s).

I like QS, but man the marketing dept is smoking some whacky tobacky.
I just wait for it to phase out like the old "4x4 blend" or Q-Torquepower and Horsepower (which is now UD). Then I stock up for less than half off.

It's only a syn blend at that, LOL,,marketing for the fools that believe it,there trying to cash in the this years cold winter.
Whats the mrv and VI? Are they improved over the standard ILSAC spec oils in the same grade? (I cant go to the provided links at work to investigate).

Canadian Tire ran commercials about this back in the mid 2000s with that annoying bearded fellow. His car started but his neighbour's wouldn't in the cold because he hadn't installed QS Winter Blend, only available at Canadian Tire? I can't find the QS commercial but it had this guy

That's the oil that has it's PDS in my link.....it seems much different than this SN version.
