Let's talk about something I'm sure everyone here has very strong feelings about. Windshield wipers.

Now I'm sure I won't be changing your mind about the big issues when it comes to windshield wipers.

Which brand is the best.

Which type of design offers the best bang for the buck.

And most importantly whether umbrella sleeves, if put onto your windshield wipers when parked outside, will prolong their life. They do. Of course tubeless socks are a better choice since they also can tick off your nosey neighbors and most HOA's. But let's say you just want to buy windshield wipers for the next three years.

What's the best strategy?

The Mustang get the factory AR3Z-17528-AA and AR3Z-17528-BA. The Fusion gets DS7Z-17528-AA and DS7Z-17528-BA factory blades. The Silverado and F-350 get ACDelco 84578275 since they work really well and both take 22" blades.

I change them either after a year without rain due to UV rot, or before any big storm.

Interesting. Both the Ranger and the F150 OEM blades were complete crap(for me). Maybe it is just our environment or maybe I would have had better luck with fresh OEM blades.

I usually pony up for Bosch Icon's.

Still working thru the Anco Contour clearance wipers I bought back in 2015. Poor planning. 🤣

Valeo's wipers have been good for me :)

If you have more than one car, get all your wipers at the same time, since Rock Auto charges the same no matter how many wipers you order, so you have 5 cars with 10-15 wipers total, it's the same shipping as 2 wipers, for example.

Beam wipers aren't usable on many older cars.

If you like putting a sock over your wipers, consider those winter wipers that have a rubber boot covering them :sneaky:

I hate the adapters with a passion. Both the Mustang and the Fusion use the 2 squeeze tabs and the OE blades fit perfect. Anything else you need to use some adapter contraption that never fits right. When customers come in for wiper blades I will put them on and the hardest part is figuring out how to break the adapters on the aftermarket blades.

VW factory is what I usually use. Cars spend most of their days in the garage so there is little weathering for them to contend with. They usually last me about three years, 15k miles

I just get the universal refill rubber blades from amazon/ali express. They seem to last just as long as the originals and I can get several years out of a $5 package, just takes about 2-3 minutes per blade to refill them.

My 2016 CRV gets new Honda inserts every 3 years in the spring. They work great. About seven dollars each the last two times I bought them. I'm talking about the rubber inserts only. Thats all it needs. No need to replace the additional hardware.

Anything with no adapters an example would be Bosch icon direct fit

PIAA silicone are by far the best longest lasting I’ve ever used. They’re about $80 for a pair from Tire Rack. The only downside is they stay so soft in cold temperatures that they don’t clear frost or ice like rubber wipers do.
