Menards has been selling the fluid for the past couple months for under $2 a gallon. I stocked up.

I buy the cheap blue stuff whenever/wherever its cheap. (Not at gas stations) Usually 2 bucks a gallon or so. Sometimes I get 8 gallons when they are a buck each.
Walmart sells it for $2.88 CDN but every fall Canadian Tire puts on a special consisting of -45 Rainex stuff in 4 jug cases. Stock up in the early fall.

In a pinch (needed to test the system and had no real stuff available) I made some from, as stated above....
Water, Rubbing alcohol, ONE DROP of Dawn dishwashing detergent.
The "oiliness" of coolant is the last thing you want.
The $1 per jug deal is a rare bird indeed.

isnt coolant bad for the paint job as well?
Ethylene glycol is also more toxic than methanol, and the stuff found in coolant that don't need to be sprayed around.
