Windshield Crack

What state do you live in??? In Kentucky your glass is covered with NO ded....

I've used those kits at least a half dozen times successfully on multiple vehicles. Done carefully they work extremely, imo. In fact I've never had a crack get worse and require a windshield replacement after using the kit. I would try that before replacing a windshield you can't afford, OP.

In regards to the poster who said the repair kits don't work because if you push on the glass it will cause the crack to get worse.. uhm.. don't push on the glass!

I had a chip professionally repaired for about $80 on a Ford Escape I had for years. Finally, like 3+ years and A LOT of hard miles after the repair, it finally started to fail slightly and the chip had one tiny crack coming out of it. I sold the vehicle before it became a problem but I'm glad I spent the $80 not more to do the whole windshield.

One thing to keep in mind about a glass claim on auto insurance is many companies submit that claim to go onto your CLUE report. That claim has the potential to increase your rates for years.

OP would have to check his insurance. Here in FL with Allstate, there is no increase for a windshield claim.

Another thing some companies do is file the CLUE record but don’t increase your rates. That way it only hurts you when you go to switch companies and it makes them appear more expensive. I used to see it happen all the time unfortunately.

I got a vertical crack that is one inch long and very thin. I can't afford a new windshield. The crack has not increased, it is on
the top of the windshield. Please help, thank you

Get it repaired, or get a kit to do it yourself (and chance ruining the windshield). Drill a hole at the end of the crack, fill it with glue and work the glue into the crack i you can. It won't be invisible, but won't get worse.

My point was that the repair does not bring the glass back to original strength. You can easily push on the inside of an intact windshield and not generate a crack. Not so with a repaired windshield. Be careful cleaning the inside of a repaired windshield.

Just ignore it unless it's in your field of vision. A friend of mine was tired of replacing her windshield every year so she's left it cracked for 4 years and probably 60k+ miles. It's along the bottom.
