Windows Update Taking Out SSD Controllers

I've read that those who updated Win11 and had drive issues installed a pre-release version of the update.

"Pre-release version of the update"? What does this mean? My computer acted up a few days after installing the update via "Windows Update".

Edit: google search on this topic, and there is still no "smoking gun" found, definitively defining the problem. It's pretty annoying. What I know for a fact is that my PC crashed, and the drive could not be detected in either the BIOS or, obviously, Windows. Oddly, after disconnecting everything, and reassembly, no change to software, the PC booted normally. Whatever is happening, it's not repeatable.

Pre release patches come out if you've check marked the Windows Insider Program. You can stop them by going to Windows Update -> Windows insider Program -> stop insider builds.

Well, apparently there is another update that's killing computers.

Sadly, my computer updated, despite my turning off the update feature, and my system just crashed. I'm not sure which update caused it this time, though. The update that led me to start this thread reinstalled, along with the new one just linked. It seems that turning off update is harder than I thought. Or maybe, I just turned it off for a month, and forgot to go back?

This one appears to be much more innocuous than the previous one, primarily just an inconvenience.

New Windows update a couple days ago, and today, a black screen, requiring reboot. Reboot left another black screen, so had to turn off power, wait a minute, and then reboot again. This time, the system came back. That makes three or four reboots in the last couple months or so after a Window's crash. Kinda scary.

Mine did the same earlier this year, maybe around April. I thought my SSD was dying but smart info was fine. The issue gradually went away after a few weeks. The event viewer didn't show anything conclusive so 🤷 lol
