Windows Media Player - Went from v9 to v11

I updated my Windows Media Player from version 9 to 11 - yeah, been awhile and just been putting it off. Now when I play videos I've recorded with my low resolution digital camera (640x480 video mode, 30 fps), the video seems to be lagging the sound by 3~5 seconds ... very noticeable. Never did this with version 9 Media Player.

Any idea why this would happen ... maybe my computer is too slow now for the latest version of Media Player? Running Windows XP Home Edition.

Maybe it's a setting in the new version of Media Player, but I couldn't find anything obvious in the tons of settings.

I've done a lot of cursing concerning Windows 7 and WMP 11 in the last 2 weeks. This laptop nearly found itself broken in half on numerous occasions.

My 8 year old computer with XP home and wmp 9 works so much better for so many things.

Right now, WMP11 assigned the wrong album art to 15% of my collection. Even overwriting the correct art to do so. Sometimes it splits albums into 2. Sometimes WMP11 will simply not see something in any music folder, no matter what setting, or folder you tell it to look. It will play a song if you click on it in windows explorer, but will not list the album it is playing from in WMP11.

The only way I can transfer playlists to my Sony MP3 player is with WMP11. I can drag and drop any other folder, but playlists must be synced in WMP11 AAAArrgggghhh.

Perhaps try going into Organize----options----performance---and make a couple experiments settings in that tab that concern vidoe playback.

My XP laptop's performance really suffers on battery power, It would play videos slowly or delay them until I plugged it into 120 volts again

I'd roll back to WMP9 in your shoes.

Yep ... it was the hardware acceleration setting in the performance tab. Default is set to max, but apparently my machine doesn't like it or is incompatible due to age. Set the acceleration slide bar to the minimum setting and the video and audio seemed synced back up to normal again.

Too late for me to go back now ... so will use WMP 11 now. I just use it to view short movies I shoot anyway, so no big deal for me.
