You can also use this for placing an Icon on the Windows Vista or Windows 7 Desktop.

I ran the pre-release version of Windows 8 and received my copy of the released version on the 26th of October.

Faster start up and shutdown.

You have 3 options on install.

1. Do an upgrade.

2. Save Documents and other files.

3. Clean Install.

I opted for a clean install. Did a backup of my documents, pictures to an external hard drive before installation.

Yes, the Consumer Preview expires on 1/15/2013

Bought a new laptop in June and qualified for the $15 update. But I hear this is more of a tablet/phone OS. Wondering if I should even do it. My laptop is not that powerful but does have 4gb of memory. Should I? And is it reversible.

I'd wait for Service Pack 1 if I planned on installing it at all, let them iron all the bugs out first. Me, I'm going to pass altogether though.

IMO the whole tablet oriented interface is cool, but Microsoft made a big mistake not enabling a "classic" interface option for enterprise customers or simply for those who don't plan on using the OS on a tablet.

If Vista was Windows ME2 then this has to be ME3.

On a computer without the touch screen option just use the Desktop. You can use it just like Windows Vista or Windows 7 without using the Start Screen options if you desire.

In fact I use it most of the time.

For the $15.00 price I would jump on it.

You should notice faster start/shutdown times. It too seems faster running applications.

Has a lot of useful features too.

I ran the pre-release version on an older laptop with 3 gb of ram and it worked great.

The normal service pack 1 stuff was included in the version released on 26 October.
