I just received my SP 1 download from WSUS but I wisely decided to have my updates only install if I choose them.

After surfing around I have noticed that a sigificant number of folks downloading SP1 have had errors where the pack will not install and cause the computer to go into a looping boot or something similar making the PC unusable.

Comments and experiences.

According to most Windows experts SP 1 for 7 only seems to have minor updates , so I figure I'll wait a while until all of the bugs have had hotfixes applied to them.

I wouldn't, and I didn't, I had to fix my parents computers because they had their laptops on auto download, it killed their wireless signal, and would to the random reboot loop every 15mins or so, had to rewind the computers..

Brenden although I am somewhat savvy about PCs ....

I have Microsoft Essentials Security installed and I am careful about how I use my PC so that I have a pretty slim chance of getting any infections malware or the like. How long do you think MS will support Windows 7 without the SP1 ? Do you think there are any downsides to keeping SP1 off the PC for the short term in other regards ?

I'd actually love to have a laymans description of just what exactly is in SP1 . Anyone?

I don't know what MS did with Win7 SP1. My laptop updated to SP1 just fine. No issues so far in the week or so it's been running.

HP Pavilion DM4 laptop with Win7 Home Premium 64-bit.

On the corporate network, I have heard of Forefront being in the way, but not sure if that's Forefront v1 or v2.

It failed the 1st time on my Win7-32 home PC, second time worked like a champ.

They are updates... updates are supposed to fix bugs, not install bugs. kudos to M$ for messing up more computers... the more they work, the more work they make for me, and more $$$ in my wallet!

I downloaded Win 7 SP1 on my laptop and on my desktop. I'm having no problems with either. They're working just fine.

I installed it last week on my work machine, an HP Compaq 7800 Small Form Factor with 2.33Ghz C2D and 8GB of RAM. Running 7 Enterprise x64. Worked fine.

We've had one issue so far and it seems related to a corrupt INI file, so it looks like I'll have to do an inplace upgrade to correct the corrupted file and then try the SP update again.

Working well here. Now over 100 machines in production and more going out every day, both 32 and 64 flavors. No issues had been noted by anybody when it was brought up last Friday at a meeting.
