Windows 7 folder tree, no sync

Example:

Create a desktop shortcut to C:\FolderA\SubfolderZ

Open this shortcut, Windows 7 (and Server 2008) will open the folder but can't be bothered to show it in the tree view on the left. The tree is there, but 'Computer' remains unexpanded. I can even navigate up and down folder from the list and the tree view still can't be bothered to synchronize!

In contrast, explore this shortcut in Window XP (and Server 2003) and the tree view on the left will show where you are looking in the grand scheme of things. Navigate folders and the tree view keeps in sync.

Any way to make Windows 7 do that?

Thanks.

Double click on the shortcut for the folder to open it -

In the window that opens, right click in an empty area of the "tree view" on the left hand side and select "Expand to current folder".

Now when you open the shortcut the folder should be expanded in the tree view.
