Anyone else ready to smash their Windows computer with a hammer with he latest update failing to install? Googling, looks like Windows kind of maybe acknowledges potential issues.

I'm currently trying recovery using Windows Update repair version.

My wife's a Mac person, and I despise how overpriced they are, but Microsoft needs to stop being awful.

Very vague post. The issue could be anything between the chair and the computer.

Almost all Windows issues I've experienced were with dying hardware, bad drivers, or bad programs; rarely was the issue with Windows itself. You have not told us any error codes or details; it could be the OEM programs on your computer that is causing the issue and not windows.

I have a supported Lenovo laptop sitting on my desk that's failed to install 25H2 multiple times. I've got to get around to fixing it. My plan at this point is to boot it from a USB stick with the GParted Linux OS on it and wipe and reformat the drive so the disk is completely clean.

Remove any non-Microsoft anti-virus/anti-malware software.
Run Disk Cleanup, click the 'Clean up system files' button, check everything, then hit OK.
Open a command prompt as administrator and type 'sfc /scannow' and let it run.
* I would also suggest running 'chkdsk c: /f' and letting it run after a reboot, but supposedly chkdsk may cause issues with a BitLocker-encrypted system drive if yours is. Do so at your own risk!
Run 'Defragment and Optimize Drives'.
Install any pending updates for 24H2 first.
Try kicking off the 25H2 update again.

First, I hope you have a good backup. I purchased a new SSD and copied my Win10 before I upgraded to Win11. Yeah that's extreme but you should at least have your files backed up to something.

What method are you using to upgrade? Are getting an error message? How is it failing? Is your hardware Win11 compliant?

Mine is in the notification stage in the lower right corner of the screen. I have auto updates selected, and it tells me it will update tonight (17 Oct). It is now the 19th, and it has failed to update. And from what I am reading here, I'm kinda glad it hasn't!

There is this not very common way to upgrade but it worked for us at work a few times.
You download ISO from MS, mount it, with your current Windows running as usual, and run installer from the ISO.
We only had a handful of cases where Windows got all funky, slow and crushing at times with no clear reason why. This in place install/upgrade worked very well fixing all computers we used the method on, but they were only a handful.

I upgraded my Ryzen 7 5800x/32GB DDR4/RTX 3060ti system to 25H2 couple nights ago via Windows Update. It went through fast and without a hitch.

Threw Microsoft out of our home years ago, except for one laptop which my wife has. It's funny, but I got TIRED of the constant updates to updating the updates! *LOL*

Now have
2-Mac Mini desktops on 27 inch HP monitors, MacBook Air, late gen iPad and 2 iPhones.

I dont see them as expensive unless you are talking laptops. Yeah, maybe so, but they just work and work for a long time.
I have a first Gen MacBook Air M1... and I mean, really early M1 as they were still selling the intel chipped ones at the time.
I use my desktop Mac mini most all the time but to give an example, the MacBook Air battery is still at 99%

If your talking desktops the new Mac mini M4 which I think blows away anything on the market more so at the price point of $599.
I know some will complain, lack of memory/storage etc... sorry but that is not true for your standard home owner. At least me. I use the Mac mini hours at a time everyday and still not close to using up the 250 gb of storage. Actually have 150 left and I am going to replace this desktop in a few months to a new one. My desktop has the Older intel chip, My wife's has the M1. I will be upgrading my Intel one to an M4 linked here for $599. I dont think anything on the market can come close to its performance... but what do I know.
I just check my Mac mini desktop age using the serial number. It's been running flawlessly since Sept 2019. Now it's time to say goodbye for a new one with M4. .. Im not even sure why, jsut because I should see some difference and the new Apple updates now stop for the intel chips except for security I presume.

One think I think is stupid is Apple marketing "Apple Intelligence" that statement insults my intelligence

I did all the Windows check stuff and some command line stuff. No errors anywhere. Using the recovery update it installed. Just took forever. Googled for quite a while until I found that fix and it seems to have worked. I was ready to just install Linux.

That was the fix that worked for me. @Pew true it was vague. But it wasn't me. I am more computer savvy than most people I run into. I basically just have a Windows computer that's been running Windows 11 since new (2 years old). All I do is pay bills, read the news, and stream TV on it when my kids hijack our big TV. I don't think I've installed anything or any program to it except Chrome. Just run the basic Windows antivirus. Ran all the troubleshooters and Windows told me nothing wrong. Command prompt stuff to clear old updates out and all that didn't work. But I believe the link below is what did work updating from recovery, or whatever that option is called. FYI in case anyone else has issues.

Mac is a great product. But a refurb Windows laptop with upper average specs is under $500. My wife's more basic Mac was over $1200. My Windows machines have all lasted 10+ years with no issues. Only issues are ever Windows itself.

Also, I turned all our credit card cash back into Apple gift cards last November (hundreds of dollars) when you could get a bump buying Apple gift cards and when I uploaded to the Apple Account and tried to buy her computer they froze the funds and cancelled the order. Their support was baffled. I documented every date and time and filed complaints with many state agencies and sent Apple headquarters certified mail asking for actual support. It was a HUGE pain but some important person actually made the order work. If I were you, I'd never put any more money in your Apple accounts than you're OK losing. And I'd never buy an Apple gift card. Just my experience.

The 25H2 update is waiting for me to manually press the install button, but I’m in no rush. Apparently it’s not really as major feature update, and MS will slowly roll out these later on. I guess they just want to keep a schedule at this point.

Other than that no real issues with my windows machines.

On the other hand, my daughter’s M1 MacBook Pro has a permanent screen distortion/pixelation bar at the bottom. Apparently it’s the flex ribbon, but needs a full tear down to fix. The legendary Apple hardware is real.😆

Mine hasn't attempted to install 25H2 even though I have “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” toggle turned on. I bypass the Windows account and TPM requirements so maybe that's why my machine is not in the queue yet.
