its an 08 vibe the window motor on the rear passenger side is bad. atleast i think it is. i will need to remove door panel to check for voltage. to be 100% sure. anyway is the motor riveted or bolted . what tools are needed anything special i need to know. thanks all.

Don't replace the motor only. The majority of power windows I replace need the whole thing. Also, if you just replace the motor, typically the regulator fails soon afterward.
As for special tools, it depends on the type of car. I have never replaced one on a Pontiac Vibe.

You probably already have but make sure you have checked all of your fuses... If they are all ok:
I would do all my research for parts for the Vibe / Toyota Matrix and order what you need and try to find a clean way to take the panelling off with plastic tools. Have the stuff that they seal the door panel from water to reseal the door after, and see what clips you need if any break. Get a few extra, some will break.
Try your best to take the panel off slowly as wires will be hooked up with a connector, If you can find ANY related DIY in Haynes books, or online videos for Pontiac, GM, Chevy, and Toyota, Lexus... Just to have a feel for what to expect will help a lot.
Then make sure you have a multimeter to test your wiring.

Keep in mind that this thing is mechanically a Toyota. Some of them will pretend to be broken in this weather due to rubber sticking.
With all electrical loads off, have an assistant hold the throttle slightly open so it revs around 2,000 RPM and at the same time hold the down button for that window. While they're doing this, you open the door and slam it closed. Have your assistant release the window down button. Repeat three times.
If that doesn't help, then go ahead and yank the door panel to see what's wrong

Actually only the Vibe was built at NUMMI, the Matrix was built in Canada. Odd logistics.

hrm...somehow that does explain the bi-lingual(EN/FR) warning labels in my buddy's vibe though....most notably the airbag warnings on the visors..
