Win 7 / Win 8 KB2949927 update failing to install

Notice to Win 7 / Win 8 users... October batch of Windows updates includes KB2949927. If you don't have Bitlocker (encryption on the drive) enabled, this KB will fail to install, and your computer may be stuck in a lengthy recovery loop, while Windows tries to revert it. Happened on two of my Win 7 machines. Thankfully, after some time, the machines recovered themselves. It just took quite a bit of time.

I haven't been able to find a whole lot of info on this, other than this page:

They've pushed this piece of [censored] through 7 times and it still doesn't work. I recall back a few months ago it was an optional update but this time they pushed it through as important. It failed on my computer but showed as installed, so I uninstalled it and blocked it as it's apparently 3 .dlls that facilitate the change from windows 7 to windows 8 via Microsofts upgrade process.
