Will Using This Diesel Oil Hurt My Catalytic Converter?

Hi, I have a 1991 Jeep Wrangler YJ with a 4.0-liter straight six. I just passed California emissions (I live in SoCal) by the skin of my teeth, so I wanted to ask if using this:

https://www.beausautoparts.com/prod...nthetic-blend-diesel-engine-oil-f545-1g?gQT=0

synthetic blend FRAM 15W40 would cause any issues with my catalytic converter.

I used to hear concerns about zinc hurting cats, but this oil technically says it can be used with gas engines; does that mean it's CAT safe or is there still risk?

Thank you for your time.

Most importantly how much does it burn. It's harmful when it gets burned so if it does then dual rated is better. If it doesn't burn there's no concern. If you need it to keep passing emissions buy chevron delo ADF. Walmart sells it directly for a good price. It's zinc and phos free and has a saps % of only 0.4 and would be best to preserve cats. It gets its protection from moly and some other stuff.

It will not, Fram is your Friend! When a company makes an Oil and Oil Filter with the 1st letter starting with an F, remember the word Friend starts with an F, then again, an F on your Report Card is a different story.

It doesn’t burn oil. But I wonder: Is there really THaT much zinc in this stuff? Is there any way to tell what is in it short of a voa?

Then you can use whatever you want in it. Some product data sheets list zinc and phosphorus but some don't but they might include the sulfated ash percentage figure. Modern diesel oils rarely have a super high amount of zinc in fact lots of them have less than Euro rated gas oils which can be used in some diesels through their oem spec.

It's fine. This oil is formulated for use with ULSD.

Short answer : Not at all. 5W/40 or 15W/40 diesel is all that has ever been in my 2002 Wrangler since new.
