Will this Strike Kill Ford/Chevy/Chrysler?

My FIL was a UAW worker for his entire career. He has 2 Nissans in his garage. When I asked him why he would own cars not built by a Union, he was confused. He didn’t know Nissan cars were not union built. He assumed they were.

He could afford Nissan and not the other brands built by the UAW.

I manage a plant with blue collar workers. Getting people to own their work, stay off the cell phone, and pay attention to quality is a huge challenge. Would a Union fix that? From what I have seen, no.
I used to work in a warehouse shipping out parts. They would complain how I was slow compared to everyone. I'm not sure if that was bs or they were just trying to squeeze out every penny they could out of me. Anyways, on my last day they started comparing me to the previous guy and they told me how not once did I ship out the wrong part. Personally, imo speed and accuracy never really go together.

I would prefer accuracy to speed.

Our staff are good at getting stuff done when told, but put no effort into thinking ahead. They will just stop and stand around if not told to do another thing. They wait to be discovered instead of asking for what is next.

Nor will they start on preventative maintenance or housekeeping in their own. They pull out their phone and wait to be found.

That is a mentality that seems to be prevalent in the unskilled labor force. They don’t want to be micromanaged, but refuse to avoid it by owning their area and being proactive independently.

It’s not 100%, but a majority that are that way.

This picture adequately describes the modern unskilled workforce. I took it in our men’s room stall. They can’t even put a roll of toilet paper on the hanger because it’s too much work
