Will the Echo Speed feed 400 head fit my SRM 210?

I recently acquired a SRM 210 that came with a fixed line head and I'd like to replace it with a windable head that I can feed as needed. I know many like the the Speed Feed 400, so any input on if it'll fit?

Should fit if it is an Echo head. I'm not aware of any differences in head spindle thread pitch/count between Echo heads.

The Speedfeed 400 head will fit the SRM210 trimmer without the need for adapters. However, you may not like the way the trimmer feels with the Speedfeed head. It is bulky to maneuver and makes the trimmer feel unbalanced. At higher RPMs, it causes driveline vibrations when the string lines are half used up.

I'm a big fan of the traditional Echo heads ... Echomatic, wouldn't recommend Ebay but part numbers are good for reference. Bit of an art form to learn to load them, but all I've used for 25 years.

^^^^What he said. The traditional Echo head is steady, reliable and durable. I have it on my primary trimmer that was purchased in 2001 and still working like a charm. No need for the bulk and complexity of the Speedfeed head once you learn the proper way to load the traditional commercial style head.

I love the speed feed 400. It's the first trimmer I've ever had that wasn't a pain to reload the line. I have an SRM2620 though so I don't know if that makes a difference

I'd look for a genuine Echo trimmer head. Buy a second one, or a replacement reel, as they will wear over time ... especially if doing lots of concrete edging with the trimmer head on the ground.

Home Cheapo has them for about $35. Not terribly expensive. Get the SF 400 and don't look back. I have an SRM 280 that gets used Weekly with a SF 450. I have a SRM bike handle still in the box if the 280 ever quits. I've had the 280 since late 2014 or early 2015. It gets used weekly for two and a half hours. It has over 1,000 hours on it and runs good.

I have a cheapo curved head Echo at one of my properties. Runs beautifully, but the OE head it came with us such a waste.

You waste this much line because it no longer has the length and reach needed.

So wasteful.

So Id like to get a regular wound head. Will the cheap curved shaft (GT-225 I believe) be a liability to this? Can I get one from Home Depot? Or do I need something special?

You'll need an opposite threaded head. The engines spin the same way, but without the gear of a straight shaft in the head, the curved shaft rotates the same direction as the engine, opposite the direction of the straight shaft trimmer heads. As long as you can get a speed feed or similar Echo head in the correct thread, you should be good to go.
