Will Musk be the 1st trillionaire?

Wondering why the Elon hate. What did he do to you? That's right, absolutely nothing except trigger your jealousy gene.
Because he was one of the person who tried to trim jobs in government, and a lot of the Asperger talk in public that were not politically correct, and as soon as anyone gets involved with politics someone will find things to smear with (it is the nature of politics).

Don't want to be hated? Don't do politics.

He can do it himself. I don't like to be forced to do something for other people's dream (with my 401K).

I know there are a lot of weird stuff in the IPO but the way Elon put in those clauses to make sure no one can challenge him in compensation and voting power, and get rid of him if he screw up (we all screw up sometimes), means a big red flag for me. I love Tesla as a company putting out new products, but I will never trust it Elon as an investor, especially if he may use what I give him money for one thing (make money selling Starlink and AI) and put it in another (sending things to Mars at a loss for humanity).

Maybe things will change 6 months later, maybe it won't, I don't know but I don't trust Elon can be contained if the investors don't like what he is doing.

Tesla's PE ratio is about 370. They have very little net profit. The stock is just a bit higher than it was 4 years ago. Let the Teslacians hang on. Meanwhile Bitcoin lost half its value this year.
You do know how tech stock is valued right? It is never about current PE but about future growth potential. If you want a good PE and dividend, buy a dividend stock.

BTW Tesla is an AI company pretending to be a battery company that also happens to sell car, not the other way around at least based on how Wall Street values it.

One trillion dollars is a an absolutely grotesque amount of money for one person to be worth. No, it's not actual money in the bank but it might as well be.

I think many of you are conveniently forgetting that in order for him or any other single entity to have that much money/wealth/value/whatever, that MANY others have to have a lot less. There is a finite amount and he has an absurdly large chunk of it, and that just seems very wrong considering the current state of world affairs. But hey, that's capitalism so good on him I guess.

Up 28% so far. Bring home the groceries!
I saw this.
I am a bit torn. Go big or go home or wait a couple of weeks to see where the share price goes?
Most IPOs trend lower after a bit, but who knows?
It pains me to admit that Elon may have the Midas touch.
He has brilliantly leveraged government money in building more than one business.

What's really scary is if the government took it all they could only pay off about 1/38th of the national debt.

A lot of the money is printed out of thin air, and when you print a lot of money out of thin-air they have to go somewhere. Without overbidding current assets too high (inflation), you have to create new assets by investing these money (VC and IPO).

I would agree that for him to have much more someone else will have to have much less, but that's always the case in human history. The only exception is when the cost to overthrow the ruling wealthy class is cheaper than buying from them at a premium. We are not close to that point yet, not anywhere close in the developed world. We just reduce birth rate instead.

I worked for one of the most wealthy individuals on Planet Earth. I see it quite differently. The more durable goods we produce, the wealthier everyone is. The idea that a wealthy man's money sits in the piggy bank is utterly absurd.

What it does is employ hundreds of thousands of skilled people, raising the overall standard of living markedly. Period, end of story.

Finally someone who understands Capitalism.

Looks like Elon's net worth could hit $1.1T tomorrow. SpaceX does not turn a profit but that is due to heavy capital expenditures.
The real story is, this is Musk's company; Elon will still control more than 80% of the voting rights.

How rich is Elon? How much is $1T in comparison? Well, #2 Larry Page is worth a paltry $300B.
Disruptive technologies for the win. Go big or go home.

Interesting day tomorrow. The real money just might be in the AI business unit...
I always like these examples...
  • 1 million seconds = about 11.6 days
  • 1 billion seconds = about 31.7 years
  • 1 trillion seconds = about 31,700 years
