Pretty much a combo of Gorilla tape holding it together, spilled sweet drinks, old hardware and lack of upgradability (yes sure, but not like a desktop) and weak architecture from the get go. That's why I encouraged forward looking with this purchase.
Maybe it comes from your fond memories when you used a Teletype 33 with the optional numeric keypad?
Funny you should say that. My wife who works with numbers all day long doesnt use the numeric keypad to the right of a keyboard.
I carry a Dell notebook for work, Lenovo for personal use. My Dell has traveled the world multiple times and never failed. I have broke two Lenovos over the past three years. One of the Lenovos that broke was after I dropped it, and later my youngest grandson jumped on it. The Lenovo continued to work for about three months after the Grandson having physical fun with the Lenovo.
Costco for there extra warranty and very little bloatware when you first open it up.

The HP laptop I purchased at Costco a year ago has been fantastic, solid build and only one bloatware item from McAfee which was quickly eliminated, three minutes after lifting the lid for the first time. In a year McAfee has not resurfaced, not even once. I paid $500 less 5.25% CC reward. It has not burped once or caused me any grief. So happy with this purchase.
