Wierd oil change incidents

I really don't which catagory that this belongs in but, I will give it a try. I was doing the oil change on the Aztec last night. Take out the drain plug on the oil pan and let oil drain out. While leaving the drain plug out and take off old oil filter. Drain plug is still out, I begin to screw on the new oil filter but, even before the oil filter gasket makes contact old oil starts to trickle out of drain hole again. My question is, "What causes this?, Is it normal? My Neon also does this exactly the same way. So my knowledgable friends, please enlighten me.

Yea, Probably just the rest of the oil draining out of the passage way between the bottom of the pan and the filter, which includes the oil pump.
