I was on the valvoline website.

It stated that the VSOT was discontinued.

How long has it been off the shelves and why was it discontinued?

Originally a great additive with high Zn and other good stuff. Later the additive package was reduced considerably. I read but, did not confirm that the additive package was harmful to catalytic converters (Zn?). There was a "professional" VOST for awhile but, haven't seen that for awhile.

Like SLOB probably because of catalytic converter concerns with the elevated zinc levels.

Valvoline could not state: "safe for catalytic converters" on the package, could not guarantee that it wouldnt end up in a ULEV applivation and prob wasnt willing to pay for the rare converter failure. Bet there was some heavy pressure from Auto manufacturers and FEDS to pull it, too.

I know the stuff sank out of suspension like Pb balloons in my 2.5 Jeep engine. I was leaching near 150-200ppm of moly for over about 20k miles without any moly in the current sump's oil.

I still have some somewhere around. If I use it it will be like 1/2 oz/quart.

It also seemed to have a CRAZY dose of polymeric VI improvers added.

I don't know about this being fact, but it was sooooo viscous it certainly seemed that way!!

SLOB....

Parameter: VOA Data (Manufacturer's data)

Zinc: 4898 ppm (4700)
Phosphorus: 4921 ppm (4300)
Calcium: 4279 ppm (7800)
Moly: 0 ppm (0)
Vis @100C: 29.5 cSt (28)

I used VSOT (full dose) for a handful of years and no issues with my cat converter.

Since the discontinuation of VSOT, I have found similar results using CD-2 Oil Treatment (silver bottle).

Right now I am trying a 10,000 mile OCI in my Ford Taurus with Quaker State Torque Power 10w30 and 1 Pint of Schaeffers #132 and 5 fluid Oz of LC20.

I plan on sending in a UOA after the 10,000 mile run.

Wish I was around during the VSOT and SLOB days. I remember seeing them in stores, but thought they were snake oil.

I am also thinking about experimenting with Lubro Moly, but I haven't seen enough UOA's to convince me to stock up on it.

Almost all products of a reputable company like Valvoline are not snake oil. I still have about 7-8 bottles of VSOT, I'm using 1/2 oz per quart as of now.

I have 1/2 a bottle I want to use with some QTP too. In turbo VW during my break-in, just a quick run.

afaik, it's high visc PAO.

I made a rhyme.
