I can't wait until the current style craze for fat, ugly front ends is over, usually loaded with way too much chrome. For example, the front end of the current Ford cars would look great on a razor. I like smooth, low, simple, and clean, and all I see is cars that have huge gaping maws. The front end of the F150 looks like the backside of a Greyhound bus. Yuck!

The newer Toyota Tundras for example.
The current Honda Accord. the car is beautiful otherwise. Amazing proportions and roof line, just a wacky looking grill.
I think the designers are grasping at straws, trying to set themselves apart. Its all been done, that's the problem. They end up doing different, just for the sake of being different.

wirelessF--Exactly! The Tundra may take the prize for the ugliest truck this year.
First problem: European regulations. The higher, flatter fronts are friendlier to pedestrians.
Second problem: Too many SUVs on the road. Cars now need high sides to maintain a high level of safety, and the front ends need to match or the cars will look silly.
I also suspect that people's preferences have something to do with this (projecting a "tough guy" image so they'll feel safe, etc.) but that's just a suspicion...

Personally, I think once the "pimping your ride" craze dies down, we'll start seeing some normal front ends, along with normal-sized wheels that aren't ruined once you hit just one pothole.
Its a testament to how good the Fusion is that it sells well with a grill that looks like its out of the JC Whitney catalog. Mazda 3 would sell much better if the grill did not look like something the Joker would drive in the next Batman movie. And is Integra trying to be the next 'Saab' of off-beat styling????
Bigger engine compare to the late 80s early 90s also make the engine bay bigger, thus bigger front end.
I think some of them are ugly just for ugly's sake. Look at the current Camry for example; obviously Toyota got tired of hearing its cars are "appliances" and overcompensated by gaving it too many bizarre curves, angles and a crooked emblem on the trunklid. Its much too much in my opinion.

The Honda and Toyota both fit into the "aerodynamic like a brick outhouse" category that seems popular.
That clip of Conan's 94 Taurus SHO against the new one demonstrates how timeless a 90's taurus actually looks when set up with foglights and decent wheels.
I'm kind of sick of the current era of Toyotas that all have the "whoosh" headlight that crawls halfway up the fender. And all jacked up trucks that you can't just throw something over the side of the bed. I LOL at the Ford superdutys etc that had to put the headlight UNDER the turn signal to meet a NHTSA spec for less glary lights.

This is America. Big is good. Massive is better. Huge is well, just great.
I've always thought the 02+ Altimas had a big gluteus maximus. The most recent one looks better though, except it's still huge.
I can't wait for the smeared headlight, gaping maw, and double chin looks to go away. Designers need to go with more classical beauty than corporate identity/ family resemblance.

Honda and Acura need to raise the unemployment rate and get rid of their styling departments. The Accord Crosstour front end puts it in the running for worst looking new car.

I'm a huge Acura fan and I couldn't agree more. The new TL looks like it can't decide whether it's coming or going. The backside looks like the front.
