Absolutely, HPFP/CDFP is one of my primary recommended upgrades on these these things, at least on the Series 1. Fuel always comes first.

Yeah, I knew that from somewhere... perhaps I should reword the statement to "it's a shame Mazda couldn't figure out how to make that monster work in the MX-5."

I'd probably be driving a Mazdaspeed 3 if I could stand the face of the 2010 model. I like Mazdas, but I just couldn't get over that restyle. The first gen models are so much better looking.
 
Another thing about the Speed 3 ; you definitely don't need to use all 6 gears puttering around town. A standard sequence for city driving is 1 -> 3 -> 6-> and just let the torque do the work.

True. I find myself skip-shifting all the time...

I assume the ratios in the box are pretty close eh? I can't get out of 4th in town. 6th is only useful as a cruising gear if you are going ~60Mph+
