Why not 0W-30 Syn for all?

Study the following Castrol PDS and you'll see your mistake:

Mobil 1 0W-40 is lighter than GC at all temp's below 25C.

Indy:

Nothing wrong with GC 0W30 but for less money Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 is a good candidate for your needs:

- meets 0W30 low temperature requirements

Pennzoil probably doesn't want to call it a 0W30 for marketing reasons.

There are lots of examples very good to excellent used oil analysis on this site.

Buy it on sale cheap - 19 $/jug the last time I bought some.

You're right, I used the SuS viscosity..twice, doh.

If you have a Walmart, they sell it in the 5 QT jug. AZ,AAP,also o-30.

Tig, I apologize. You were right. I was in Walmart this morning and lo and behold, there were 3 jugs of Mobil 1 0w30 for $24.50. Took two home. Thanks for the heads up.

There is lots wrong with GC starting with it's low VI which is even lower than the Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 you mentioned.

What evidence do you have that Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 "meets 0W30 low temperature requirements"?
Regardless, Mobil 1 0w30 is lighter at all temp's . It's unfortunate we can't get it in Canada.

Of course if one wants the absolute best flowing 0w30 at extreme cold temp's, that would have to be the ESSO XD-3 0w30 with it's - 40 MRV of 14,900cP. Unfortunately it's only available in Canada.
But at all but extreme cold temp's Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w30 is still the lightest.
