Why is this making me nervous?

Last oil change on the CR-V was 44790 miles. Now it's at 51690 miles. It's been sounding a bit noisy, even when warm. Looking under the oil cap, the deflector where there's usually some oil has some black gunk on it. The GTX 5W-20 is looking very brown. Yeah, OK, not scientific and I tend to have faith in the maintenance minder, but part of me REALLY wants to change it.

Just change it. Change the PCV while you're at it.

Who cares about the few $$ in oil...I care about sleeping at night...what's that worth to you?

you're close to 7k on dino. change it. if its actually cleaning, a new fill should clean up the rest.

its 17 bucks for a gtx oil change from az or orielly. change it

Change it. GTX is reasonable and gotten you 7k. I would change it.

Yeah, I think I'm going to change it. The MM still says 40% left, but at the rate it usually goes that means at least another 3000 miles. Maybe this is why I've used synthetic before, but GTX will be fine for another 3000. Thanks!

Blackened oil is cleaning, black gunk is black gunk.

Change it.

I used to use Castrol dino, but found that although a very good oil it didn't last as well as some other brands.

But how long has it been at 40%?

It could drop to 30% at any min at which point 15% is not too far behind. I'd say maybe another 1-2k at most, which you COULD do but if you notice a bit more noise then usual, change the oil and see if the noise stops.

Maybe Pennzoil provides oil for Castrol now. Maybe that's why the engine is getting sludged up
