Why is Royal Purple Love it or Hate it?

I wouldn't buy it for the regular price but for .99 cents a quart I figured what the heck.

After the Mobil 1 0W30 comes out in about 1500 miles, I'll try the RP.

Figured for a 10 dollar oil change including the filter it is worth a shot....why not at that price?

The dye they use in Royal Purple stained my t-shirt once. From thn on, I don't eve consider using it. Get rid of the purple dye!

I won't buy it unless it is under $3/quart like on a BOGO which is the only way I buy pretty much any oil. The only exception is my air cooled motorcycle that needs a good syn oil. RP is not on that list. I am just too cheap when it comes to oil which is just a commodity anyway and will ultimately end up in a jug on the curb waiting for the re-cycle man. So until that happens, I HATE IT!!!! grrrrrrrr!!!

It's funny, there used to be an entire forum on this board for GC when it was colored green and was all the rage. Someone else chooses a different color and it's craap!

Find where I (since I've been here longer than most of you in this thread.. (even have Buster beat by 5 days

) in the past have jumped on that wagon.

But at least that oil did not state on the bottle "green oil" or name itself because of some Royal thought....

Never bought a quart of Green oil and would not just because it was a certain color. (I thought that all the GC was (did) get a little

)

Red ATF is the only way it comes. Anyone out there advertising their line of ATF by its color?

In the mass market and all the oils out there some companies want to set themselves apart. So yes marketing has to do with selling a product today,would it be better if it was called cheapo and purple??? It's an oil that has it's place in some applications and not in others,as with all oils.

People get caught up in the flavor of the month and I guess PP is it right now and if it works great,if ya want purple oil to make you feel warm and fuzzzy well thats great too!

Spend your money on what you want and what you feel is best because there are millions of cars out there on bulk oil with 100's of thousands of miles on them and not one thought of oil quality,color or make-up.

How about this for a fact then? I did try it in my wife's car and it thinned out very badly in a very short period of time and the used oil analysis showed much higher engine wear than any other oil I tried. Royal Purple has never impressed me.

Great. How about this fact? It produces a stellar used oil analysis in my car. So what? If one bad result were reason to doubt an oil, there would be no highly thought of oils on this board. Every application is different. Everyone's results will vary. To tell someone something won't work for them because you had a problem is pure ignorance. Of course you can share your experience, but that in no way means they will get the same results. This board should be above that kind of behavior.

To clarify, I'm not saying everyone needs to try it. I'm just saying don't bash it unless you try it and if it didn't work for you doesn't say much, if anything, how it will work for someone else.

The annoying thing about the colour is not the fact it has one (pretty at that) but the name of the product refering to the colour is what is both corny and cheezy...for a supposed industrial/high-tech product. It definately feminizes the product beyond rehab. Add to that their absurd HP claims and price v performance. It's obviously NOT meant for the sophisticated consumer.

What's next, grape flavour? It's about appropriate as a coloured dye for a product that goes inside a dark engine.

Engines that got a good UOA on RP....what, did the engine previously produce a BAD UOA on $2 API conventional oil and RP far outperformed ANY other top-tier synth? Ha, doubt it. Any API oil should produce a decent UOA without $7 purple unicorns.

My Dad used it in Lycomings. And then cars to use a hoard up.
I haven`t seen it in years.
Aeroshell 100W is now the standard.
