Why is it so hard to get companies to fit you in?

Like seriously I've been trying to get my trailer welded up at this one place for like two weeks now. The owner has been on jury duty the whole week and rarely answers the phone. Then he says to bring it in on Monday or Tuesday and they can do what I want to it right there, so then I bring it in and oh no we're too busy and the boss man is still out. Not sure what him being out has to do with it since they're obviously working on stuff right now. Same thing with when I was trying to have some work done on my truck. Oh no we can't do that today the guy who does suspension work isn't here. Lately I've been more likely to just someone to have something done, but now I guess I remember why I just do things myself. It's either going to be a pain to find someone to do the work and i'll have to pay for it or I can just spend all the time figuring out how do do it myself and save a bunch of money. Sometimes I feel like businesses are just there for kicks.

Might as well buy a welder and learn how to do it yourself. There'll probably be about 100 bucks of fluff built in to your repair which will pay a good portion towards a stick or wire feed welder. I got a wire feed welder for 80 but its a light duty thing. The 230v stick welder will do big jobs for around 250.

Weren't you asking about careers? Here you go.

I'd be glad they're honest about not working on stuff that's not their forte.

The shop probably had more higher profit welding jobs. Your weld job was a lot less $$$.

Just like when I bring my online bought tires to TireKingdom for mounting.... verses a person paying $1000+ for a set of tires purchased there. They put the big ticket job before my Accord or RSX.

Maybe one day i'll buy one, but those cheap welders don't do much. They only have like a 20 percent duty cycle. You're looking at 700 bucks for a decent welder plus you would have to install a 50 amp outlet.

Yeah. I guess you can't blame them for prioritizing. The guy actually called me back 20 minutes ago and I'm going to bring it by in the morning. Honestly most of it's probably my fault I need to learn to be more outspoken on setting up an exact time to come in otherwise you just get pushed off to the side on situations like this.

I bet they hit you up for a lot more than 100 bucks. Let us know the outcome. I was able to put a roll bar in my vette with a 240vac cheap bare bones stick welder. To go around that whole trailer and beefup the welds is going to take quite a few hours.

I actually use one of the little HF AC welders, the duty cycle is low, but it can run on either 120 or 240 volts & actually can do a decent weld. If you set a box fan to blow into the vents it cools off decently quickly.

The shops I use are ALWAYS busy because they do a+ quality work and are in demand. That's why you have to wait in line....they earned it.

I only want it in like 5 or 6 places. Total of about 24" of welding. One of the guys took a look at it and said probably 30 minutes or so. Who knows, like you said we'll see.

It is a very rare combination to have a tradesmen who great at their job AND organize the business side.

Most are great at business (not workmanship) or trade but no organization skills.

Just way life is.....

Never thought of it like that.

All tradesman are getting in short supply. Something for young non-college bound to consider.

I recently waited 8 weeks for vinyl trim to be done on my house. I was told it would be that long of a wait up front. Waited 6 weeks for new doors to be installed.

There are not even a lot of new houses being built right now here and there is still a high demand for tradesman. Most of them are near retirement also.
