Why I won't be using Rain-X All-Season washer fluid anymore

That’s a heavy ammonia cleaner, right? I’ve been afraid to use in the reservoir but its supreme with a squeegee on a 2nd floor stick!

It's called Easy Glide glass cleaner and I do not see ammonia in the ingredient list.

Dude awesome. I’ll take a closer look. Whatever I have has been superb with house windows. No issues with it in the reservoir or pump?

As an aside. I bought a 2015 Passat new. It had heated windshield washer tips. When you used it an odor was created that was just magical. Everyone that rode in the car commented on what a unique and pleasant smell if somewhat chemical in nature. It only worked with the OE fluid. Generic fluid smelled totally different. I would go to the VW dealer and overpay for their fluid just for the smell. VW bought back the car for the dieselgate settlement and none of my current vehicles have heated fluid. I miss that smell.

Yea, the VW OEM stuff smells great and VW specifically says to only use the blue stuff. Without mentioning brands VW doesn’t want you to use Rain-x because of gumming up the tubing and pumps.

I just pumped out all the cheap summer fluid (I mixed in glass cleaner, to get the bug bodies off).

Put the orange rain-x winter fluid in, and have used it for the last week. No streaks or other problems. BUT I also applied the original rain-x to the glass several weeks ago, so maybe that keeps the fluid from sticking...

It's a known issue on VWs that this will foul the level sensor causing a dash light.

Interesting. Never had a problem or knew this to be a problem. Been using Rain X for about 2 decades now.

No issues so far. I've been using it for few years now. I usually eyeball a "good splash" into the reservoir and fill up the rest with tap water.
