Why does Tesla charge so much for the non-default color?

I’d gladly pay for the color I wanted to not get one I hated. Same goes for interior as i refuse to ever get cloth seats again. They are so awful to keep clean vs leatherette or leather.

It's funny, I'm the total opposite. I love the feeling of cloth seats and don't like leather. Sure leather could be easier to clean in some situations but I hate when I sit down the seat is cold/hot. With cloth it's always fine.

Yep. When we bought the Model 3, black and the ugly Aero wheels were standard, no extra charge. They were both a no-go for me.

2) Because pearl paint is more expensive, and people are willing to pay more for it. They probably did a study and people are willing to pay more for a pearl white than a flat white.

The pearl coat is a second layer on top of the base coat of white and under the clear in most cases, so technically the process is 33% more involved.

I'm just curious. Pretty much any mainstream car brand offers multiple free colors and some premium ones as well.

So why does Tesla charge $1K for white? It's sad that's no longer the default color as white cars are the best IMO and what I would buy if I was buying one.

Tesla has crazy profit margins. This is one of them.
