The nearest Napa Auto to me is about 9 miles away. I went in to grab the $9.99 oil change deal and had to ask if they were doing it there. The worker replied "yeah" and pulled the flyer out from BEHIND the counter under a phone book or some other catalog. So I grab my ProSelect and 5 qts and head to the counter to be rung up at $17.94!!!! I said, woah, that isn't gonna be $9.99 after rebate. Then the Yahoo starts trying to tell me that it isn't gonna be and that there were no instructions on how to ring it up so it would be. I say forget it and he gets [censored] off and goes to the back with a calculator only to return to the front and re-ring it up at $12.24 before tax so the $2.25 MIR makes it $9.98. He was all bent out of shape, I could tell, but what kind of scam are they trying to pull???

I used to work after school at the local Big "A" auto parts store. I almost died when the store manager (the owner's son) came up to me and asked me. "How do you figure out 2% discount?"
I don't think he was pulling a scam....he was just a dummy.

I think it's because most NAPA stores are used to catering to commercial accounts and not walk-ins. Seem like their current marketing is for everyone, but I'm sure a lot of old school stores aren't on board.

Also, a lot of NAPAs used to be independent shops that NAPA gobbled up. So if the independent shop didn't have good customer service prior to being bought by NAPA, then it won't have it after they are bought by NAPA. That is the case with the one near me.
The one nearest me sucks so bad I drive about 20 miles to one in another city if I really really really have to buy it from NAPA. The other one has the local NAPA warehouse attached, so there's little "Ordering and hoping" it will come in today.
The NAPA's around here are owned by a franchisee and they hate, I mean HATE to sell anything on sale. But it does come down to the counter person. Get a good one and things can be great! NAPA has several prices and the counter person can sometimes select the price... If you find a nice person, as for the master installer price - its the lowest.

NAPA used to have easy-to-find online pricing, perhaps for online shopping. Local sheister used to charge 10% over or so, just enough to make me
but still buy the item. Now pricing is harder to find on their website, presumably to appease the overpriced affiliates, and I shop there less. Tough noogies.
NAPA will also NOT warranty one of their batteries without a receipt, so one has to go find the mechanic that installed it or their receipt. Interstate and Walmart both will based on the fact that, gosh, their branded, dated battery is not up to snuff.

I only buy certain things at NAPA that I can't get anywhere else like NAPA Gold filters, and Xerex G-05 AF.

I had a NAPA counter person tell me I was lying when I told him there were two different air conditioning compressors for my car (a 1989 Honda Accord), one made by Nippon Denso and the other by Keihin and that I needed a denso because the keihin was not compatible with R134a. Honda and even O'Reilly auto parts both back this up, Honda even provides a conversion kit to convert from one compressor to the other (requires a different bracket to bolt it to the block). I haven't been to NAPA since.
I've never been back to NAPA since I had trouble returning a Miata starter that didn't fit because the mounting holes were wrong. They said the mechanic was wrong.

I agree with some others here that it is the indivual that makes or breaks the store. I wish more owners would pay attention to this.
This week I bought brakes for my Honda and lost the reciept for the core charge. Found the guy that sold them to me and he said no problem and I got my $170 back for the calipers.
Couple of days before that I got a guy who couldn't figure what a wireing ring connector was and didn't want to ask what I was talking about; so around and around we go. He called them stud connectors.
I did find brake cleaner at NAPA for $2.25 a can and bought a case yesterday. I don't know if that is only local sale price or national.

My local Napa has always had the best CS compared to AAP, AZ, etc. Last night I went in Napa to look for some Surf City Dash Away. They had other Surf City products on the shelf, but not Dash Away. I asked if he can get it, and he said he'd have some by morning. I also asked about Lubro Moly. He also had it in stock.
The only thing I don't like about Napa, is their rebates. I had horrible luck with them in the past. They have always delivered, but it literally took 6 months.

My local Napa is small, friendly and knowledgeable. They don't have a large stock but if I call first they will order it for me.
