Why do people hate cats?

My best friend had 12 rescued cats. The oldest died a few weeks ago at age 15. One of her other cats died yesterday. There was nothing wrong with him. The vet said he died of grief. Now she has 10.

One night back in 2001 a starving, dirty, grease-covered cat jumped into my car when I was parked on an errand, and refused to leave. Figured we'd drive her home and keep her safe for the night, then get her to a shelter the next day. But on the drive home she curled up in my lap and went into labor.

She gave birth to two *enormous* kittens... both pure white with blue eyes, both deaf. I still have one of them. Sweetest cat I've ever known. He has triaditis, which kills most kitties within five years. Almost lost him to liver failure a few years ago. He's just a big, happy doofus. I love that silly cat more than my next breath.

Many people don't know, or don't care that cats carry the Toxoplasma gondii parasite.

From as far back as ancient times, pregnant women and cats were to be kept apart. As there was an observed connection between cats and pregnancy. As the children would have brain and eye problems.

The Toxoplasma gondii is, we believe, responsible for the "crazy cat lady" syndrome. It's said that these women actually come to like the utterly disgusting smell of cat urine!

I don't like the parasite one bit. I think cats are cool creatures.

Infected cats can contaminate soil with their feces. The parasite stays viable in the wild for up to 18 months.

In my mind there is big difference between domesticated kitty cats and wild ferral cats. The wild ones are nasty, I have dispatched hundreds. But I have NEVER targeted one with a collar, might be someone's pet.

Yes. We have a trailer park complex near my home and the "landlord" likes to keep cats around to supposedly control mice, but honestly I doubt they actually bother the rodents because he feeds them everyday. The problem is that they are allow to roam at large and end up on my property, they are NOT his pets either, when they arrive, I eliminate them promptly as I have no rodent problem and do like their noise, habit of getting on my cars and scratching them, also spraying their nasty scent on my home and cars as well and pooping all over the yard as well. I feel the same way about dogs allow to roam at large. FOLKS TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ANIMALS AND KEEP THEM ON YOUR OWN PROPERTY!

Having bought and sold enough junk houses, a number of them cat lady houses I hate the things. Their urine ruins floors I have had to cut a number of floors down to the floor joists to remove the stains and odor.

1 or 2 in a house is OK, but just OK, more than that is a disorder.

I have been in a number of cat lady houses with at least 30-50, very often with dead or dying cats left to rot on the ground. Disgusting. People who are lonely collect them, again its a mental disorder.

As for feral animals they should be killed, we are not a third world country, get rid of them.

Mine too. He also hangs out and helps me work on the car. I had one years ago who chased a big dog out of our yard as if he were protecting my wife and I and our cocker spaniel. Cats can have a lot of heart.

Dont know why people would hate or harm a cat, if you dont like them dont have one.

I wouldnt want to have one as a pet because I tend to be allergic to them, friends have them and I know when I visit.

With the frontline and stuff dont see where flees or anything like that is an issue if you have one as a pet. Some are actualy good companions.

I have a hound dog and they are somewhat aloof and are not lap dogs.

At time I wish I had a cat to deal with the mice in my yard, a neighbor had a cat and it seemed to keep the mice away, but the cat got hit by a car and no more mouse patrol.

Per the OP, problem today like everything else is all the irresponsible pet owners who dont get their pets fixed and surrender them to shelters who get stuck with the mess.

I have a strong opinion about cats: I think they are the absolute best this world has to offer.

You couldn't give me 10 or even a 100 Lamborghini's for my cat, she's priceless.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

And, you are not alone. They can be awesome companions, worthy of your attention. Like you, I had a great cat, a best friend. He was a Maine Coon, and very cool, intelligent and playful. Lived a very long time too. Followed me everywhere.

My wife is a cat lover. We have one cat she adopted from a colony of feral cats a neighbor was feeding. She's a member of the family now, but I've 'relocated' eleven of her siblings in the last couple of months. The irresponsible neighbor feeds them but that's all. I still need to 'relocate' several more to thin the herd. Fifteen feral cats around the house is 'unmanageable'. I don't hate cats, but can tolerate one.

I used to have a cat like this growing up. Dad and I found him hanging from a tree along the road as a kitten.

We named him Buzz. He tried to fly, but he couldnt. Lol.

My cousin noticed something black lying in his backyard and found out it was a deceased cat that had a collar on it. He's a detective and not a cat lover but thought the owners would want to know what happened to their pet. The cat had a chip which gave him the owners address. He was hoping a small child wouldn't answer the door but of course that happened. He asked for their mom and let them know the news.
