Why do new cell phones add too much color to photos?

Hmmmm … wonder if you have your iPhone camera set to “standard” as I’m not having that issue.
Oh but I see you say it does look prettier, yeah I’m not so sure anything is true to color anymore including any TVs that you buy in Best Buy.
I can’t comment because I don’t have the pro but I was under the impression based on reviews that the colors were pretty true.
I'm not the only one. Just a couple fast to find threads. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/253184708 https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/camera-colors-are-not-pro.2206085/

I guess more people like colors that pop so that's why apple changed their software but i personally like an accurate true to life photo. But that's what i liked about the iphone 5c I had. Colors were spot on compared to the s3 I had.

I’m not sure why people care what other people do and why they should live up to someone else’s thoughts or standards on what is proper or not.
Hey live and let live, one persons enjoyment need not be judged by someone else’s opinion of their activity.
I feel bad that some people are missing out on the experience because they're so focused on the picture of them in the moment and sharing it to get views on Instagram or whatever....but as you said whatever they prefer to do as it's their life.

I'm sometimes guilty of trying to get good pictures of something (not of myself) so I can look at it again in the future and the wife reminds me that I should live in the moment and just experience it myself.

This paragraph is from a 5th gen iPad Pro 12.9" (latest and greatest):
--
Over 2500 Local Dimming Zones
Over 10,000 mini-LEDs are grouped into more than 2500 local dimming zones. Depending on the content, the brightness in each zone can be precisely adjusted to achieve a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Even the most detailed HDR content with the finest specular highlights - like galaxies and action movie explosions - are more true to life than ever.
--
I assume HDR is High Dynamic Range. I imagine the screen is now a synthetic apature of 2500 mini-screens. The future.

With respect to cameras - my dad would take the flattest color landscapes when he travelled. I tried to get him to buy a UV filter, telling him his landscapes would look better. He wouldn't. I tried to talk him into taking a photography class when he retired. Nope. Imagine all the people out there who just do a point-and-shoot. Now the platform has enough horsepower to do post-processing and make photos look more entertaining than live.

Like audio, the purist can buy accurate reproduction. Most everyone else wants one that entertains.

Just embrace the technology camera lens optimization is a wonderful thing especially for those such as myself "who is no photographer".

One of my hobbies is photography. Very rare that I'm included in the photo. My photo's are about subject, composition, lighting and realism. I only shoot JPEG and never post process. I want the photograph to look as my eyes see it. I started with film 50 years ago and the finished results were up to your skill and the skill of the film processor and printer. I commend the OP's quest for accuracy in his photos.

Yeah, first let me say, don't think for a second that I dont agree with you. I am surprised to hear it about the iPhone pro.
I like the photos from the iPhone 13 maybe because I am comparing them with my wife who used the Vivid settings *LOL*
I DO HATE the fact that I am forced to use certain enhancing features that I have ZERO interest in. like "Burst" mode.

I briefly skimmed over your link and I am surprised in a high end device labeled "Pro" you cant not turn off what Apple thinks you should have. I say in a high end device because I already know Apple limits what you can turn off on the 13 and other phones, it drives me NUTS that I take one photo but that camera takes 10 shots in succession. The only way to shut that off is force flash or something like that.
I dont want to discount the Apple cameras though, Im sort of new to Apple, I switched to Apple around 3+ years ago and I am very happy with the photos compared to the other phones I had, since that first XR I now have a 13, in addition a MacBook Air and Mac mini. Just bought my wife a Mac mini 6 months ago as well and a new 13.

I guess the bottom line is even with the word "pro" these are Sue and Joe consumer devices preset after relentless market testing to what the public likes best and Apple, as well as the others dont want them to mess up settings and then not enjoy their photos.
Like anything now, people want fantasy, enhancement over reality. I guess the only way one is going to get that is a larger format camera without the phone. Because after quickly looking at your link it seems like you can find a complaint from people about the cameras in phones no matter what brand, just like the OP. Granted though Apple uses the word Pro. They do actually use the Apple Pros for shooting segments of movie scenes at times in Hollywood where standard cameras wont work to get the effects they need because of size. I forgot what well known film it was but sure there are more.

To me, even though I use it far, far less, I use my Nikon D3300 DSLR camera for "true" photos. I will admit you get spoiled being able to use a phone to take photos that most times will simply be sent to family and friends in a text or email, sometimes though more rarely a link to a site like Shutterfly.
Same goes for TV sets, first thing I do is dial down some settings to more realistic look but still a little enhanced for the wife.

Yes I've repeatedly tried to turn stuff on/off or make use of the abominable keep configuration thing in the camera section in the settings app work but it keeps that stupid live picture thing enabled and hdr no matter what i try by the next few times i re enter the camera app and some things can't be turned off at all. In simplifying things it complicates everything which is one thing I absolutely hate about apple at times. In going one step too far they fall into a pit. I loved just simply tapping the settings icon while in my Samsung camera app and being taken to every possible little thing I could turn on or off or change. Absolutely loved the camera and camera app on Samsung.

Apples hardware is by no means bad it's just the software that tries to be too simple and forceful on you which ruins everything. I also love the true pro mode Samsung has that lets you adjust shutter speed and take raw photos although I've never made use of it. But i know people who do shoot raw in the pro mode on a Samsung and with that raw uncompressed image they can create magic.

I also have a cannon rebel t5i and honestly the pictures it takes still aren't as good as an old but good phone. It's just the optical zoom that makes it useful on the occasional vacation where I'm taking a picture of something far away and digital zoom just butchers the video unless you're in 4k to have some quality headroom. But i would be happy with like a 5-8mp ultra low light pocketable super zoom since that's all i need in a dedicated camera. Once you have a lot of optical zoom you hardly need resolution anymore. Many big beautiful billboards were taken with like 2-3mp digital slr's.

Yes, agree, I love Apple products and that is known in this forum but I’m honest about any product shortfalls and you said it perfectly, at times they go one step too far.
It’s stupid that he make it difficult to turn things off. I don’t have the pro so don’t know how the settings work.
We do and always have disabled that stupid live picture mode on the 13s 11s and XR
Most people don’t know how or care too, that includes my siblings when they send photos LOL I hate it. Seems so stupid.
I do admit I haven’t played much with the camera on our recently purchased 13s except to disable live picture, but still have that stupid burst mode that you would think would have a simple disable button but no, your have to do something with the flash last I remember.
Come to think of it the more I think about it the more pissed I get, Apple Is supposed to be an upscale product but they treat some of their more knowledgeable upscale customers like they were in the first grade.

Burst mode is an option under settings? I have it turned off though. If I hold volume up it starts recording until I stop pressing.

Yeah they really don't treat it like a pro model at all. They just treat the customers as "pro" because they allowed apple to achieve higher profit margins on each sale. I only got the pro max just because the wife wanted an upgrade from the old 7 plus so she got the 13 prolapse I mean pro max. I really don't like the sound of it. Sounded like a cheap Chinese phone when i first heard of it. idve preferred 13, 13 pro, and 13 ultra since it's "pro" but bigger which sounds better.

If i were to personally buy a new iphone today it would be just the regular 13 since I don't like these huge phones that much anymore. The galaxy s3 and 4 just had a great one hand friendly size to them. Not too small but big enough to be useable but the way those phones felt was nice. I really hated the s5 that frame design and dimple back put me off.

Good post but I think that’s when you want to intentionally do it.
This finally motivated me to look again online, there is no way to permanently disable it, but what is happening is if you keep your finger on the shutter a moment too long it will automatically burst and the only way to disable it is by turning on the flash.
So now I will have to make sure just to touch the shutter real quick😉
It seems kinda ridiculous that you can’t turn it off, as slow steady gentle shutter operation assures sharp images instead of worrying about tapping the screen quickly to take a picture.
OK I just tried to do it and now I can’t even tra re a burst mode if I hold the shut up button too long it starts recording a video. LOL … interesting not much time to mess around with it right now

Yeah mine just starts recording lol, but I leave flash and night mode set to auto which probably explains why I’ve never experienced that.

I love the “close up” mode on my new 13 pro max though! It even does great in the dark!

Im grabbing at straws here. I need to do more investigating. I dont know the criteria when it decides to take burst shots and not.
It might be more on selfies or "portrait? I also think maybe with the newer updates the criteria changed a little to less often.
It should be simple for me to search but I always forget until I see these posts *LOL*
