Why Buy Oil Off the Shelf?

I have been seeing a lot of posts about how hard it is to come by oil on the shelf these days. Why not buy your oil online and have it shipped to your door?

I purchased the Kendall GT-1 Full Synthetic that I have online and it came out to be cheaper with shipping than buying 5 quart jugs of PP or M1 at Wal-Mart. I just had to buy 2 cases to make it worth it..... I obviously will use it, so maybe next time, I will buy 4 cases.

So, why stress out over buying oil? Why drive all over the place to get it, spending way more on fuel costs?

It is ConocoPhillips flagship lube. It is comparable to all of the other premium syns that you can buy. Whether it is as good or better is always debatable for any lube.....

This post has nothing to do with M1. It has everything to do with buying oil online vs. off the shelf. You can also purchase M1 on the same website and have it shipped to your door. Just curious why people stress over WM not having something in stock and driving all over a city to buy a 5 quart jug for $25 when you can just buy it online and have it shipped to your door. Thus, saving your time and fuel cost, which will probably be more than the oil.

Not saying one way or the other is right. Just a friendly debate about where I chose to purchase my oil....

This being a very valid reason for some.....would never argue this one. I have been on some very hard times myself and am very grateful to not be in that situation now.

Here is where I purchased the Kendall. I had to buy two cases to make the shipping cost worth it. They also have various other weights as well. I purchased some Pennzoil online a couple years back for a good deal. I can't remember the name of that site though at the moment. Maybe someone else can chime in on that.....

I have never stressed over buying oil. What I use is very easy to find. Now when I started using synthetic oil in the 70s when it was very hard to find.

For a lot of people here buying oil is a hobby and somewhat of an addiction so to speak, I personally like the experience of purchasing oil at the store as opposed to buying online.

I noticed you are paying a lot more for Kendal than M1 on this site.

With shipping for 24 quarts it is 118.60. No tax. It is $25 a jug at Walmart for M1 plus Wal-Mart is 10 miles away and I don't shop there for anything else. So, for me, it is comparable in price.

Like I have said in other posts, I am contemplating using Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w20 at some point in the future.

Not speaking of Walmart. The same site you use.

The Kendall is cheaper. Kendall comes in 12 quart cases and M1 comes in 6 quart cases.

For me, it would be $140.02 including shipping from Petroleum Service Co., which is about $5.83/qt. Not too bad for "regular price" synthetic, but still more than Mobil 1 at my local Walmart. However, that's in 5 qt. jugs, not quart bottles.

Why buy anything off the shelf? For the past two years, I've been Amazon Prime - free shipping. I can buy anything I want on Amazon.

I often buy things off the shelf too....but retail is changing....

It is definitely an addiction.

But I may go Garak's route and just go to the Shell distributor and get them to order me Pennzoil Ultra 5W20 3 jugs at a time.

I really can't depend on NAPA for another killer Pennzoil Ultra sale, even their sale flyers are very sporadic up here in Canada.
