Indy, I must not see what you are seeing. Edmunds reports a 2008 CR-V's cargo capacity as 35.7/72.9 cu. ft, with the seats up and seats folded.

http://www.edmunds.com/honda/cr-v/2008/features-specs.html?style=&sub=

They report a 2007 Focus wagon's cargo capacity as 18.0/40.2 cu. ft for the same measures.

Note also that there is a pretty big difference in some of the occupant measurements as well, especally some of the hip and shoulder room measurements.

You linked to the Focus hatch, not the wagon.

Wagon: http://www.edmunds.com/ford/focus/2007/features-specs.html?style=100716841

All Seats in place: 35.6
Maximum capacity: 73.7

I totally agree that the CRV does have more passenger space inside, but I fit in the Focus fine even with the sunroof once I lowered the seat bottom to get the lumbar support in the right spot. I'm 6'1 and fairly "wide" at 225lbs, so two of me in the front with winter coats would brush elbows a bit, but that's not a deal breaker..
For me anyways, I'd rather have the Focus, I really just wanted cargo volume and fuel economy and I find its quite comparable to my parents 06 CRV in terms of noise, comfort, and highway manners.
Once the Tracker dies, it might get replaced with a CR-V as it gets less miles and we like to have one AWD or 4WD vehicle around but hopefully that won't be for a while.

See, I knew I must have been doing something wrong, as the differences in cargo capacities seemed too great to make sense. Thanks for the correction.

You are quite welcome

He asked a question in the same form as I asked in my reply. I.E. why buy a _____________.

I gave my answer in the form of the same question, I.E. why buy anything other than ________?

If my answer was arrogant then so was the original question.
