why bend jack stand tab for safety

This is confusing. The tabs are put there by the manufacturer to prevent the base from falling off or the tabs are being bent to prevent base from falling off? Tabs are bent so the 2 sections can be taken apart?

You bend the tab to prevent it from falling off the base.

The stands are shipped in the box with the base and the post as separate parts.

Assembly calls for the post to be inserted into the base, and the tabs bent inward.

Doing so is meant to prevent the two parts from separating, whatever the circumstance, and keep the stand as a fully-assembled product.

I am confused that the videos you watched, didn't state the reason?

I don't bend mine in, because I like to live on the edge. ;) It's not really that, I just want to be able to easily take the column out to inspect the pawl and column teeth every now and then, and I'm familiar with gravity so I carry them by the base with the column oriented upward.

What box? I just looked at the stand. There's a sticker on the side - "Bend this tab ..." nice to know. Easier carrying.
