Who needs knives when you can just gnaw through whatever you need to cut.

With dollar store knives, gnawing becomes more appealing I'm sure...
We have a set of german wusthof knives too, bought in germany as its crazy what stores here were charging for them years ago. When it comes to kitchen stuff I encourage my wife to buy good stuff as often it will be the last one you will have buy, or atleast last decades.
My latest online purchase a couple oil filters for my ATV, the local big box store always charged too much for one, and now doesn't have them in stock anyways...

At face value that's like saying Honda is superior to BMW.

Claiming that something is better than another based purely on place of origin is ridiculous.

There are good knives made of good steel from both Germany and Japan. Same with bad knifes.

At the same time, claiming that the German made knives will last 100 year just by brand is pretty ridiculous too.

Personally, I would rather have VG-10 blades over the Wusthof X50CrMoV15, but that's just me.

Anything that's properly taken care of will last 100 years.

Sorry, I just read the beginning of the thread and noticed the knife discussion was going way off topic.

For me, it seems that everything that I want, I can rarely find in store, even when they claim that it is in stock online. In the past, I might want something and want it right away, but I end up not being able to buy it and just buy it online. It worked out in that I realized that I rarely actually need something right now. If I waited, I could research and find something better for a better price, or I realize that I don't need it at all.

When it come time to file the Illinois state taxes, I just use table of estimated sales tax from online orders based on my yearly income and use that number. It's way underestimated, but the sales tax in Cook County is about 10%...

Price. I can handle employee incompetence. My last two purchases were an O2 sensor for my T100, about $40 online delivered. Local chains were more than double that. If someone can sell a real denso sensor with shipping, paypal and ebay commissions for $40 and make money, why do the local chains need to make more than double?

Genuine Bosch MAF for my TDI, $93.99 overnighted. VW dealership had it for $280.00, chain stores had generics for $150.

What do i buy local? Stuff from the cool welding store that stays open till 6pm on weekdays. I over pay there all the time and am happy to do so.

I buy a few things online....auto parts, some kids stuff, and some other stuff...

I save money by not buying much in general anyways. I didn't buy a house big enough to collect junk......

I still like hitting the B&M stores....for clothes tools, sometimes even for new stuff/or ideas......

Because I'm not much of a shopper, I do my homework, but the lowest price is not always of my concern.....rarely in my shopping do I notice a big difference...I've even noticed auto places around me catching rockauto.

I have great success ordering stuff from Partstree for my 1977 IH Cadet 80 lawn mower. I ordered them on at 10 pm last Saturday night. Six days later, as promised in their confirmation e-mail, BTW,the belts were in my mailbox. Of the 2 local OPE shops, one is a pirate and, the other doesn't work weekends in the summer. I am more than happy to keep a good crew in Burleson TX working.
I order most of my planned maintenance parts on line.
