I order/do most of transactions online:

Clothing
Oil/Filters
Supplements
Electronics
Pay Bills
Performance Car parts

Works for me!

^^This times a million! I`d LOVE to see all retail stores crumble.

What a change since the "good ol' days". We used to value good products and good service, aka the small town hardware store, knowledgable auto parts store, or friendly meat market.

Now we want cheap, easy, fast - the transition to big box mentality: inferior products and minimum wage employees.

I hope the B&M stores don't disappear for the times you need something today for a repair or you want to inspect the product for fit and quality.

It's certainly a catch 22 we've created. As soon as the B&M disappear, then people will complain when the wrong part is sent, delaying the repair. Or, they can't figure out what they need from the mail order description alone.

Interesting times.

things are cheaper when ordered online but picked up in store, that is what I prefer as its really easy to do warranty exchanges, I order AAP online then pick it up in store to always get my 40% off and I have an online record of all my receipts. Limited Lifetime Warranty is amazing...

Online is better in price but depending on the website, there can be warranty hassles.

I buy online from local stores to pick it up that day. Only exception being amazon prime, no tax and free 2 day shipping and their customer service is no hassle.

I've gotten over the need for instant gratification after a purchase.

Not having to deal with managers, clerks, oblivious customers, nimrods in parking lots, traffic to and from..... Priceless.

The true reason why Circuit City went bust was Management kept firing their top sales people because they didnt want to pay them the big bucks for actually making sales, and thought anybody could sell to the public.

Wrong. The sales people knew better and wasn't pushy compared to BestBuy.

Me: I want a "great" tv.
Circuit City Commissioned Sales Person: This $800 tv
Me: What about that $2000 one.
Circuit City: Do you want a $2000 tv?
Me: no.
Circuit City Commissioned Sales Person: this $800 tv...(details)

Me: I want a "great" tv.
Best Buy Non-comissioned bigot: ok great, check this one out its our most expensive one.
Me: what about that 800 one
Best Buy: get out of my store. Security needed now, call the police this guy has a $2 dollar bills in his wallet.
30 minutes later
Cops: you idiots you know $2 dollars are real?!
Best Buy: Calling the FBI.
Me: Are you for real?!
An Hour later, FBI agent shows up and tells them yes this $2 bill is real, not fake, its legal tender mainly for betting at the tracks.
Best Buy: Fake fake fake. Arrest him we are pressing charges.
FBI Agent: It's real and legal. For what?
FBI Agent: I'm sorry, go buy your tv else where, you're not being arrested or being charged.

B&M can't compare on price to online. So they hire ever more useless and quota hires, at minimum wage, and guess what you get.

But few people want service with their sale, or they do until they can get it much cheaper elsewhere, and then...

I go to Walmart but *only* in the morning during the week days.

I'm in and out within 20 minutes. I never expect good customer service at any retail business.

I buy 90% of my things on line for the simple reason i can find a better deal and usually have it hassle free in a few days top right at my doorstep. But I do buy something at B&M's like the laptop for our Son the other day at best buy. it was cheap, fast and easy. I guess I was lucky.

What I don't wanna see is B&M stores closing or going out of business. I think it's only a matter of time before we see many retailers downsize or go out of business. We have all seen the dumpy looking closed malls and stores that blight an area for 20 years before the property is bought and redeveloped. I've traveled in Europe and all over the U.S. We have far, far more retail square footage per person than any other country on earth.
I hate to admit it, my wife and I are guilty of trying running shoes on in a store and than ordering them online to save money.

When I bought my current phone from Best Buy, in store price was $199 and online price was $99. They wouldn't honor the online price in the store, but you could buy it online for $99 and do store pickup. Stupid, but I did it that way to save the $100.

Its easy to sit here on the laptop and order what I want/need, get in a couple days, a week or so delivered to home.
Food and some things, we mainly go Costco. Have a Fry's close, another Fry's maybe 15 or so minutes away (watch the Friday deal ads online).
Auto parts, mainly hit them since they are all over, but it was trying to get a filter once for my DD and after driving from one to another (about 6 or 7 auto parts stores) and none had one in stock, I right then became an Amazon regular for many things ever since. Easy, can get good deals (compare), items not always easy to find locally or impossible to find locally, just one stop (or one sit) shopping.
If I don't need it right now, hard to find, overpriced, then I usually check into Amazon and go from there.

I order things online for the following reasons:

(1) things that I simply cannot get locally (or north of 49th parallel), which surprisingly lots of stuff.

(2) I order things that locally may be available, but costs much less (at least 30% or greater) south of the border.

(3) certain things, when ordered online, can only be bought on US (surprisingly, there are lots of online sellers that only accepts US shipping address and/or US credit cards.

all in all, about 1/3 to 2/3 of the things I bought throughout any typical year are mostly from US, and purchased online.

Q.

I don't shop at best buy only because their prices are always higher. Even on sale items, it's usually things I don't need/want anyway.

I've seen the automotive parts business take some hits as well.
I had a guy on phone last week, challenge me on the part number, the part, what I knew about it and the price. Turned out, he was on rock auto as we were talking and wanted to test my knowledge what his armchair knowledge was. Rock auto beat my price by $12. He said he'll be by to pickup the a/c compressor from ME, and I can at least price match rockauto. I said we don't price match against online stores.
What he wasn't aware of was the warranty. If rockauto is going to take a a/c compressor back without having a few things done (and documented such as flush, orifice tube and drier change and evacuation), that's on them. We require several things to be done to validate the warranty. rock auto will lose out on warranties if these things aren't done. eventually their supplier will tell them no warranty. (4-seasons has for us, and they want a copy of the receipts showing everything bought and services done).
the online stores dont' have the overhead a regular B&M store have, they sell by volume, we sell a couple a week type of thing.

As for the Android phone, if you save all your contacts in your GMail account, you'll save yourself so much headache & trouble you won't know what to do with the extra time.
Every contact should be in GMail. so when you log into a new phone, everything begins to sync and it only takes literally 5 minutes to be up & running.
It's so easy to restore an Android phone it's not even funny.

I buy almost everything online too. But,when it comes to shoes,I'm my experience you always have to try them on. Last time I bought shoes online, even though they were the right size, they were cut wrong, and didn`t fit :^( I had to go through the hassle of dealing with the sleazy post office to mail them back. I never want to go through that PITA ever again!

Let them fold up and go away, they've earned it.

Hahaha haa haa hhahahahaa!

I've bored this BBS with this story half a dozen times, so here it goes again:

Went to sears at the mall, saw a TV I liked, said I'd buy it. Nope, sorry. It was late in the evening and the companion warehouse a couple blocks away was closed already.

Sears has B&M at the mall because, ???

The prime mall showroom space isn't doing them any great favors if they don't have the warehouse space to back it up.

And it was a flat screen TV. Pretty dense spacewise for the price. Not like a sofa or something that takes up a lot of room.

Similarly, sears, ugh, really didn't want to sell me a scratch n dent demo washing machine. Lady went on about how Maytag Neptunes always blow circuit boards and if I didn't get the extended warranty I was on my own for lightning protection. She even wrote "not covered for electrical storms" on whatever paperwork she had started. She disappeared to "print me off more info" and never came back. We stood around for ten minutes then split. I went back later when I figured my commissioned bad-attitude saleslady was gone. I was right! Bought it under an assumed name in case they tracked names for commission purposes.

On the other hand I was ready to plunk down $69 on Amazon for a 1tb USB drive and walked into a Walmart by chance moving in a few days. I found a USB 1tb seagate drive for 50% off Walmart marked down to $45. I also picked up a linksys 5 port gigabit switch for $20.

The Best Buy stores around here are horrible. I haven't gone to one in years.
I have a very busy schedule. I'm working 60+ hours a week. I can't always go to a store when they're open. I can order from Amazon and often have it to my house before I could take the time to go to a store. Also, things are rarely out of stock online. If they are, I didn't waste an hour of my time driving around just to go home empty handed.

Try Zappos for shoes. Free shipping both ways, and no hassle returns.
