I'm curious as to who's going to deviate from the manufacture's recommended 5w30/10W-30 and use 10W-40. I realise it takes a good amount of courage to do this.

I run Maxlife 10w40 in the summer May 1st - Nov 1st and Maxlife 5w30 Nov 1st - May 1st. It's a little on the thin side, LOL, but I'm not worried. I used to run M1 15w50 year round but that was in my foolish pre-BITOG days. The car is a 91 Stealth 3.0L DOHC non-turbo with 155k miles. I like the thicker oil for the higher oil pressure. Right or wrong, I feel it gives better protection for the rod bearings which are prone to failure on these cars and 10w40 is within factory specs for summer temps.

XLT4ME: You have a good plan. Also, the latest Maxlife, after Feb 07 (date code on bottle "B137..." shows B=Feb, 13 is day, and 7 is year) is about 1+ cSt thicker than the previous Maxlife. You are looking at a decent 11.5+ cSt at 100C. For older Maxlife, just throw in half a quart or so of 10w40 with your 5w30.
