I decided to change the gear oil in my "free" Toyota 4Runner today, so I got some 80w-90 (I thought) gear oil, and went to it. When I was almost all the way through the second quart, I noticed it was 85w-140. So, assuming that my differential holds 2.6 quarts, as it's supposed to, is 1.6 quarts of 80w-90 plus one quart of 85w-140 going to hurt anything? I don't want to drain it out and start over, but I can if I have to.

If the two gear oils are the same manufacture then no problem. If one is from XX manufacture and #yy is from a different, then I would change it out.

Yeah, same brand. When I picked up the bottles, they looked alike, and they were on the shelf that said 80w-90, so I didn't notice.

Thanks.
